Due to my history of pulmonary embolism, I have been told I need a high-risk obstetrician to handle my prenatal care and delivery. However, I want the more hand-holdy and actually present approach of a midwife. But you have to choose one or the other. Is there a team-based practice or some sort that I can use? Or get a midwife first and then get them to bring in the OB, or...? [more inside]
I'm pregnant - do I really need a midwife or doula? [more inside]
This was me. It took months to heal then then a few more to get pregnant again. We knew we were pregnant for basically three days before I realized something was wrong. I feel dismissed and I need to be able to advocate for myself better. I am so full of rage. So- people who have experience more than one miscarriage- what do I need to know? What should I be asking? And hey, if you have any nice success stories of babies after more than one loss, that'll be great. [more inside]
I read the book about 6 or 7 years ago and it was to do with a woman in her late 40's to 50's who became pregnant when she was a teenager and was sent to a Magdalen laundry type place where she stayed for a quite a long time. After she left she became a midwife. [more inside]

I used a midwife throughout my pregnancy but ended up with an emergency c-section. My insurance company has denied part of the claim leaving me about $3,400 poorer. I'd like to recoup as much of this as possible from my health insurance but I'm not sure the best way to go about it... [more inside]

The midwife who was incredible at our sons birth two days ago is going to Haiti for a week to work with a group of doctors. She has been told she has to bring everything she needs for her own support. We would like to give her a gift before she goes, perhaps something she might need and would not think of. Any thoughts form the hive appreciated.
