Yesterday I rescued an abandoned Érard piano from the streets. Its innards had been removed, but it has all 85 of its original keys (it's an 85-key piano). I would like to be able to use it as a synthesizer, since I can't afford a new soundboard for it. The online DIY synthesizer world is so full of resources, however, that I am at a loss where to start. [more inside]
I am looking for a sequencer for Ubuntu Linux, something cheap or inexpensive please, as I am poor. [more inside]
I have access to a digital piano (Kawai CN24) and wouldn't mind learning to play a few songs. I do not want to learn to read music. Memorization/repetition of a few easy to moderate songs is the goal. What digital or electrical tools are there that might help me accomplish this. Ideally, I'm thinking android or windows tablet applications or maybe a cheaper piece of musical hardware that somehow integrates with the hardware/MIDI outs/ins on the piano in question. If I want to try to do a fair amount of editing, is it better to record audio tracks or MIDI tracks? [more inside]
Question posted on behalf of Mr. Killian. My husband is using a MIDI controller (ART X-15 Ultrafoot) to control a multi-effects signal processor (ART SGX2000) for his guitar. But he can't seem to figure out how to make the expression pedal perform an octave sweep. He can get it to turn on/off the effect, but no luck trying to get it to sweep (a la Tom Morello in Killing In The name Of and Like a Stone). Any MIDI masters out there can help?
I would like to use some software (preferably Logic Pro, but would be open to a different software if necessary) to map a midi controller using specific frequencies, as opposed to pitches or other sounds. Basically, I'd like to be able to compose music with a midi keyboard where each key gives me a sine wave (or perhaps other wave of my choosing) of some frequency(ies) I select. [more inside]
I recently downloaded the Korg Gadget app for my iPad and I'm intrigued by the possibilities. Although I've played the drums for many years I've never used any music production software. I'm somewhat overwhelmed and not quite sure how to go about learning how to create and combine tracks and "scenes" to create songs. [more inside]
I'm looking to buy an electronic drum kit to use for general practice and playing Rock Band, but I don't know where to start so I'd like some recommendations. [more inside]
I'd like to use a 12 key MIDI footpedal to type in various (arbitrary) keystrokes under linux (debian.) Is this doable, easy, hard? (I can put in time & effort to write config files and mapping files. Would rather not do any real coding for this, if possible. I'd like to have an idea of do-ability before investing in the gear. Am posting here because quality response and unsure where else to.)
I just updated my iMac to 10.9.3 Mavericks. I just discovered that the Midisport 4x4 USB MIDI interface that was using with another Mac doesn't work. It would appear that M-Audio doesn't support 10.9. I tried installing their latest driver for the heck of it but it still doesn't appear to work. Should I just get a new interface or do I have options with this one?
I'm listening to my 10-year-old daughter use two old iPhones (A and B) to record herself in four-part harmony. She records on A, then plays that while singing the second part and recording on B, then plays that on B while singing the third part and recording on A again. Surely this can be done on a single iPad, with better fidelity. [more inside]
Help me search for the way to fix it so that the pattern I hear in Liquid Rhythm gets played on roughly the 'right' drums when I export midi into Addictive Drums. At the moment importing Midi into AD from LR results in stuff played at the right time on unexpected drums. What is fixing this problem called so I can search for a solution? [more inside]
I have a Casio Tonebank CT-670 keyboard. I bought a usb-midi cable. I've tried connecting the cable to pc. I get the red light power on for the cable. But can't get any lights to turn on for midi signaling. Is my midi cable broken, or is something wrong on the midi keyboard or pc end. I tried all possible setting available in Fruity Loops and still no sound coming through on pc end. When I push a key on the keyboard should the midi cable light up that a key has been pressed like in this video at the 3 min mark? It doesn't does this mean the cable is broken?
My son's piano keyboard broke, it was 10+ years old. His birthday is coming up, and I would like to get him a piano keyboard with midi/usb (for making music) for his birthday. It can't be too expensive - I'm thinking $80-200 range, but a little outside is fine as well - but I don't want to get him a piece of junk either. I could use some advice, since I don't know much about keyboards and would like to keep it a surprise without picking something silly. [more inside]
I'm looking for an app for my 1st gen iPad (iOS 5) that can play soundfonts and respond to a USB midi keyboard plugged in via the Camera Connection Kit. Ideally I could also set it up to fade between two different soundfonts via the keyboard's mod wheel (perhaps by mapping it as a pan control). Is there such a thing? [more inside]

hey everyone. A while back I took my Roland Keyboard into the shop and was told there was cat hair between and or under the keys. The man fixed the keys and told me to protect the keyboard from this. And I did, for a while. I know this makes me sound like an idiot, but as time went on, I completely ignored the man's advice, and now it's happened again. I do not want to take the keyboard in to be fixed (at least not by the same guy) and was wondering if there was a way I could clean it from home. If anyone is aware what kind of tools i might need, I would appreciate it. I am not going to let this happen again it if I can fix it. If anyone can help, it would be awesome!
I have a Roland RD-700 SX keyboard and I'm using an iRig MIDI to connect to GarageBand on my iPad mini. Currently, the XLR outputs of my Roland keyboard are connected directly to studio monitors. The iRig Midi's IN and OUT are connected to the keyboards OUT and IN, respectively. The problem I've having is that I'm hearing only the Roland's build in sound through the speakers, not the GarageBand sounds, which is all I want to hear. Is it possible to connect things so I only hear the GarageBands sounds? Or do I need more equipment? I'm new at all this so please go slow in your explanations. Thanks.
I want to be able to use my Korg NanoKONTROL to DJ using Grooveshark and other things. Does anyone know if/how this is possible? Thanks yall.

Please suggest resources for me to learn how to create good drum/percussion parts (using a MIDI keyboard). I don't know anything about percussion and so need help with figuring out what sounds to use and what sounds good where. Keyboardists: What is a good setup to go with if I want to buy a cheap vanilla polyphonic keyboard and some kind of software package that emulates one or more legendary synthesizers (Moogs, Vox Connie, Jupiters, DX-7, etc) with this keyboard on my Windows PC? Will I have to get a MIDI card or can I go with USB? Also are weighted keys worth it and what price point would these come in at? This is just for messing around at home and should be cheap... even eBay goods are fine. Thanks!
