Switching between Excel and Word on a laptop running Vista is problematic because a long-deleted browser is not responding. The hell? [more inside]

I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit on my laptop and am looking forward to stepping up to Windows 7. This
is a great deal that would allow me to upgrade from Home Premium to Vista Ultimate which would then qualify me for Windows 7 Ultimate, right? [more inside]

I'm thinking of getting one of the new desktop Mac Pros recently announced. I'd like to both run Apple's OS X and also use Boot Camp to run 64-bit Windows Vista on it. The question is: will I be able to use the Mac Pro's keyboard and mouse with Vista? Will I be able to use an Apple Cinema Display with Vista? [more inside]

Trying to add Chinese as an input language in Windows Vista Ultimate, but the Pinyin IME keyboard option does not appear. Selecting any of the Chinese languages (PRC/Taiwan etc) only brings up the option of a "US keyboard". How do I fix this? [more inside]

Can someone clarify how (volume?) licensing of XP is going to work when we refuse to move to Vista? Reading all day, nothing makes sense. Not that long left to figure it out. [more inside]

I checked "Don't ask me again" when dragging one artist into another in WMP11 on vista in order to change all the names from one to another (to combine "the beatles" and "beatles" into one, in this case), expecting it to just do it without asking in the future, but now I've lost this functionality altogether. How can I re-enable it?

Is it possible to trim Vista Breadcrumb sections so that the breadcrumb bar doesn't clip off most of the path in long titles? I.e. anything over say, 10 characters gets cropped, so that long paths can be shown?
Also, is there a way to fix the glitchy second row of tabs in firefox? I want the second row of tabs to have the same height as the first, so that graphics don't go all screwy.

Is there an actual name for the "Start Menu" user interface element in Vista? It also shows up in Office 2007 and holds all the "Open, Save As . . ." file operations. [more inside]

How do I solve this annoying Vista bug? About 10% of the time when I open a file browser dialog from within a program (save as, open file, etc.) the program immediately closes. No error, no warning, the program is just gone. I have not been able to find a solution with google. [more inside]

I see that Microsoft has quietly dropped IP networking over Firewire/1394 from Windows Vista. Is there any possible way to enable it, using third-party drivers or software?

I've installed MS Vista on my shiny new computer and everything works. Except mp3 playback. Whenever I play an mp3 file, be it in Winamp, MediaMonkey, or Media Player 11, songs 'skip' and screech every few seconds, mostly during louder or more complex passages, and as a vast majority of my collection is heavy metal and rock, that is almost all of the time.
I've done Google searches and everything keeps pointing to turning off sound enhancements in the Vista Audio control panel. I've tried that and I've even tried updating the bios of my nice little Shuttle xpc. I've updated the Realtek drivers. I'm at a complete loss. Has anyone either run into this and fixed it or know of a solution?

EarlyAdopterFilter: After several happy months of running Windows Vista RC1, I've upgraded to RC2. Ever since that day, I've been intermittently getting a "Limited connectivity" error that requires my network adapter to be reset. I don't want to go back to XP or RC1, so I need to make this work.
