I'm looking to buy a car in southwest michigan. I trust "my" mechanic in my town, but there's few cars here. Other towns, eg Grand Rapids and Lansing, have great cars, but I don't know any mechanics in those towns. By what logical process should I choose a mechanic to take potential cars to? [more inside]

In the state of Michigan, USA, can your auto insurance [liability+collision+comprehensive] premium be increased as a result of a collision claim for which the driver/policyholder is judged 'not at fault' by the police or court? I thought that it could, but I have a friend who is sure
it cannot. Can any of you provide a definitive answer?

My wife and I are getting divorced. We have three minor children. We will be sharing custody and time with the children equally. Neither of us wants child support from the other, we have comparable incomes, and we do not want Friend of the Court involved. The divorce is uncontested and we are trying to use LawHelpInteractive.Org (it was linked by the Circuit Court) to fill out the paperwork. The paperwork it generates seems to include Friend of the Court by default and I can't figure out how to get Friend of the Court out of it. Can I file as is and file the opt out paperwork separately after the case is created?

Last Saturday, I was speeding on the highway leaving West Bloomfield, Michigan on my way to Cincinnati, Ohio. A police officer pulled me to the side and forgave me for the transgression by issuing me a speeding ticket warning that carries some sort of monetary penalty that my parents have to pay for. I lost the ticket stub itself and don't remember where I was on I-275/if I was even on I-275 and my Mom said that if I don't get it to her ASAP the fines will triple and I'll be grounded. Do any of you guys know if there is a central repository of tickets issued in Michigan that I can go to to see the warning ticket number since locating the exact spot on Google maps is difficult? If not, what can I do?

If my memory serves me (it often does not), awhile ago I went to a Cuban restaurant in the suburbs of Detroit (probably north) that I'd like to find again.
I remember that it was small (seating-wise), non-chain, not very fancy, off a very small (residential?) street and the food was great; I think the interior was yellow and there was writing on the walls everywhere. It was popular and full when I was there last.
I've done by due diligence with google and yelp but haven't found it there; I don't think it's Vincente's (downtown) or El Guanaco (Troy); any ideas? I'm open to suggestions in the area if you don't know the specific restaurant. Thanks!

I got into an accident with another motorist. She side swiped my car and then hit a electric post. She failed to yield and was found to be at fault. Now the electric company is asking for $10k to repair the pole damage from me. Without having property damage insurance, and living in a no fault state, is there anything I can do?

My wife and kids are flying into Detroit for my grandfathers 90th birthday. They have never experienced Michigan in the summertime. I would like to find a nice lake to rent a house / cottage within a few hours of Detroit. We will only have a few days after the party so recommending Traverse or Ludington is probably not going to work without feeling really rushed. Can anyone recommend a lake / area within a few hours of Detroit where my wife can experience the beauty that is Michigan?

Should I buy a Subaru Impreza with a rebuilt title in Michigan? I'm looking at two Impreza hatchbacks, both 2006 models. One of them has about 60,000 miles, and according to the seller he has only replaced the hood and the front bumper. The other has about 50,000 miles, and the seller claims he has just replaced the rear quarter panel and the hatchback door. He's asking $7,900 for either one. Is this a scam? [more inside]

Have 10 days vacation and would like to take a cheap vacation within 1 day drive of South Bend, IN. (Say 10 hrs on road, one-way.) 2 people and we don't have much money ($1500 but maybe pushing it). Don't have to spend all 10 days away but at least 7. Have any cabin suggestions with nice towns or sights nearby? Hoping to eat out once at a decent non-chain restaurant for my birthday. Feel free to post vacation-planning sites if you have any.

Can anyone identify these
splats? My friend found them in her Ann Arbor MI (USA) townhouse after having been away last weekend. They were on windowsills as well as the bathroom floor. In addition, a few small items on top of a tall piece of furniture were knocked over. While she was gone, the interior motion-sensor of her alarm system went off twice, but the service tech found and replaced a bad wire, so this may or may not be related. We assume it's animal droppings of some sort, but have no idea beyond that. Can you help?
