What's in these pills?

I just got back from Mexico and bought what I hope is their version of Prempro. But now I'm not sure that what I have is the exact formula. I have estrogenos conjugados (Brand is Neradin). Does this have progesterone? Or just estrogen?

How safe is driving down to Baja at the moment?

How safe is driving down and camping in Baja at this time? I am heading down to El Rosario in Baja for the first two weeks in September to do fieldwork with about 9 other people. We are scheduled to be camping in a pretty rural area.

I am a little concerned about the safety however, both driving down there and camping as well. I've heard some pretty heinous stories of robberies and rapes but I am wondering how much is true? I've had a hard time finding a good website or blog that's keeping track of the situation.

All I know is that my brother and all of his friends used to go down at least once a month to go surfing and no one has gone for a year because they're all so concerned about the violence. Is it as bad as it sounds?

I'm also a woman, but will be with like 6 men (at least).

Thanks!

Looking for advice about getting and spending money while in Mexico.

Traveling to Oaxaca, Mexico next week. Looking for advice and information about money while I'm there. A friend and I will be spending some time in Oaxaca, Mexico in July. We are wondering about how to get and spend money while we're there. Specifically, whether or not it is better to bring dollars in, or go to ATMs once we arrive. Why? How do conversion rates work? Should we get pesos too? What ratio of dollars-to-pesos should we have? Where is our bargaining power and when is it most effective to offer to pay with dollars versus pesos? Any other monetary info welcome as well. Thanks!

I want to get a bunch of friends to drive down to Mexico and rent a house for the weekend. I live in Los Angeles, and I'm looking to rent a house by the beach somewhere in Baja, Mexico for a weekend trip. Has anybody had any good experiences doing this? Specific recommendations are totally welcome.

Any recommendations for a wedding in Mexico?

Any recommendations for a wedding in Mexico? My fiance and I are interested in getting married in Mexico. We would love to hear about everyone else's experiences.

Ideally we'd get a lot of rooms or houses close together near the beach and have people come down for up to a week if they could.

Any thoughts? We're really just starting to think about it and searching online has proven very unhelpful.

Has anyone ever visited Xilitla, Mexico? I am trying to plan a vacation specifically to enjoy Las Pozas, but I am finding the info on the web a bit scarce. I've pretty much read everything I could find on google including talking to the people at el Castillo, but I am looking for personal accounts and suggestions of how long to plan on staying, what else to do while I'm down there, and answers to questions I haven't thought to ask. I will be coming from Austin if that helps, and right now I am thinking about going round October/November. Thanks.

Looking for advice about Spanish immersion programs (and more) while in Oaxaca, Mexico

Traveling to Oaxaca with a friend for a 2-4 week Spanish immersion program this June/July. We are looking for some advice about Spanish language programs, homestays/lodging, and transportation. We are having a very difficult time finding a good learning program—there are so many to choose from and we don't quite know what to look for and how to determine which ones are good. We are both in our 30's, female, both semi-fluent in French (if that helps us any), but looking for an intensive Spanish immersion program in Oaxaca. We want to learn as much of the language and about the culture as we can during our short stay.

Have you had experience with programs in Oaxaca (state or city)? Did you do a homestay? What do you recommend? What should we know?

Also, any information about transportation and/or beginning/intermediate surfing in the area would be much appreciated!

Am I a dual citizen?

Please help me determine if I am a dual citizen with the United States and Mexico. I was born in Mexico City in 1985 to American parents, but moved while still an infant outside of Mexico.

I have a valid American passport. I also have an expired Mexican passport from when I was an infant, and both American and Mexican birth certificates. I was always told that at age 18 my Mexican citizenship would expire (due to Mexican law I believe - something about military service), however I have also heard vague explanations to the contrary such as this.

Would this be a matter of regaining Mexican Citizenship or simply acknowledging it? Does anyone know the real deal?

Secondly, assuming I am indeed a Mexican citizen, how difficult will it be to obtain a valid Mexican passport from within the US, and should I bother? Any perks I'm not aware of? - Thanks!

Drive to Mexico with just a drivers license?

Can I drive in and out of Mexico with just my drivers license? I'm visiting a friend in California and we thought we might drive down to Mexico for the day. However, I have heard that the entry/exit rules have changed this year and you can no longer make the trip with just your drivers license. Is this true? Has anyone tried this in the last month or so? Are they adamant about this or is it strongly suggested but not required? If I manage to get into Mexico with only my DL will I be able to get back out?

Anniversary in Ensenada

Where should I take my partner for our anniversary in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico?

We're looking at the two-night packages at Las Rosas, but would like suggested alternatives, preferably smaller and more intimate. Also looking for good spa and massage recommendations. If San Felipe is waaay better, please let me know. I researched it online and it looks like a marina and golf courses for American weekenders, which is sort of what we want to avoid.

Oh, we're also interested in a day hike, maybe inland in the mountains.

I'm a hardcore museum & gallery junky, a bit of a foodie, and I'm interested in architecture. I'm not really into outdoor activities [beyond reading on the beach] and I'd like to avoid the other tourists as much as possible [growing up in a tourist town left me with some as yet unresolved frustration].
Central America chili-off

So Taksi Putra has challenged me to a 'chili-off' in Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, Belize) this summer.
What should we eat and where?
Higher on the Scoville the better.
Anything east of Baja is fair game. If it sounds tasty and is super-hot, we'll hunt it down. Specific restaurants / neighborhoods to go to?
Recipes welcome too.
Also: what drinks do we pair the food with? Alcohol suggestions?

We're not looking only for Central American food; simply the hottest.

Note: We're pretty resilient to capsacin and super-mobile - suggest away!

Making a run for the Border?

How does the Mexican Border work? So... I was talking with a band last night who were on tour from Washington, and they were all like, "Dude, we crossed the Mexican Border for a minute out by the dunes on I-8, heading east from San Diego to Phoenix."

Are they right? Did they really cross into Mexico?

What I'm asking is this: is that truck fence that you see off I-8 really the Border? If a person jumps from one side to another, are they truly leaving the United States, or does the real border lie some distance from the highway?

This is what I'm talking about... (Although that's a different band / guy, for whatever it's worth.)

Art, architecture and food enthusiasts: what should I do during my short trip to Mexico City? I've taken a look at this thread, but I thought I'd ask again based on my particular circumstances. I'll be there from Wednesday evening through Saturday afternoon. Any recommendations about museums or churches that must be seen, or especially restaurants that must be visited? I'm not really concerned about budget. I am doing this on a lark, and don't speak Spanish, but can understand it sometimes because of my Italian and will be traveling with a friend who speaks Spanish.

Make a Run for the Border!

Any info about lap-band surgery in Mexico? A close family member is considering having lap-band surgery in Mexico. They've done the research, the surgeon is qualified, we know three people who have used him and sing his praises. Web research on the surgeon and the center seems positive and every question we have asked has been answered to our satisfaction. I just can't seem to get over the weird feeling I get about crossing over the border in a van to have surgery (yes, that's how this group does it). Am I being crazy? The family member feels like this is not a very invasive proceedure so it will be fine, I'm not so calm about it. I guess I am a product of my Americanized health care system and I'm having a hard time seeing past that. This is where I need the green's help. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Can you recommend a surgeon that we may not have researched? Should I have this weird feeling or am I being paranoid? More info: My family member has considered getting it done in the states but it is not covered and the cost will be half in Mexico. They have been to several doctors and had all the proper tests and clearances done. They are considered a good candidate for this surgery. Thanks for any advice or help you can give.

So, it has been suggested that I go get my dental work done in Mexico. From what I hear, the $10k worth of work here, will cost maybe $2-3K there. My family knows of a dentist down there that has done work for 4 or 5 of our friends. I would like to hear from anybody else who has experience with this. All feedback is welcome.

Study Spanish in Mexico

Can you recommend a Spanish-language school in Mexico? I'm trying to learn to speak Spanish, but classes, books, CDs and periodic Mexican vacations don't seem to be enough, so I'd like to try a two-week immersion crash course somewhere I'll be forced to speak it.

Mexico is the reason I want to learn Spanish, so I'm not interested in schools elsewhere.

What tequila should I buy in Mexico?

What tequila should I buy in Mexico? I am going to Mexico on vacation on a cruise ship. We will be in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, and Mazatlan. I have become a fan of tequila, but up in Washington the prices are high and the selection is limited. What are some good tequilas that I can get in Mexico to either try while I am down there or bring back a bottle? I am not looking for anything too pricy or high end, but wouldn't discount it. Mainly I would like to find stuff that you just can't get in WA. Age doesn't matter, I like both the blanco and anejo, mainly I just want some decent stuff. Bonus points if it comes in a fun or unusual bottle.

What happens in Vegas Stays in Mexico?

What happens in Vegas, Stays In Mexico?? Does anyone else remember the "What happens in *, stays in *" being used by Mexico (or some city therein) way before Las Vegas started advertising "What happens in (Las) Vegas, Stays in (Las) Vegas"?

I distinctly remember a Mexican town or Mexico itself advertising this very slogan years before the stupid Las Vegas ones. It's funny how quickly a slogan can be erased from the collective memory and reapplied to another thing. I suppose lots of money and advertising does that.

But am I remembering this wrong?

Where to stay for family vacation near Cancun?

Family vacation to Cancun area - where should we stay? Six adults (30s to 60s, vet travelers to newbies, one Spanish-speaker), one young child and a baby. We're looking for a place that's in or near Cancun so we can fly in cheaply and then leave that horrid city behind to explore everything around it on day trips: Isla Mujeres, Isla Holbox, Tulum, Riviera Maya, Chichen Itza. We'd like a house, ideally, reasonably priced ($300-400/night?), convenient to all of the above...and maybe even near or on a beach.
