My family's regular Mexican vacation spot is a combination of Isla Mujeres & Tulum area. That said, we have a new 10-month old baby this time and are looking for something a little closer. I saw that flights from LAX to Los Mochis are particularly inexpensive; can anyone recommend small, not too touristy beach communities similar to what we'd find in Yucatan (or nicer!) within a bus trip or short drive of Los Mochis? Bonus points for recommendations for inexpensive house rentals or interesting things to do, since (I assume) there are no cenotes in northern Mexico for us to snorkel in all day.

I am a 49 y/o woman traveling for Xmas to Akumal (near Cancun) with my family and my extended family. We are staying in condos right on the beach and I want to pack comfortable clothes/shoes but still look good. What besides swimsuits and cover-ups and hat should I take? What shoes? I have Keen water sandals but they do fill up with sand on the beach and are probably mainly for river shoes when you need to walk on rocks. I also have black teva flip flops. Not the most flattering at all! We will be snorkeling, reading on the beach, walking, sightseeing going to restaurants, playing with young nieces and nephews. Thank you!

Where should I take my partner for our anniversary in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico? We're looking at the two-night packages at Las Rosas, but would like suggested alternatives, preferably smaller and more intimate. Also looking for good spa and massage recommendations. If San Felipe is waaay better, please let me know. I researched it online and it looks like a marina and golf courses for American weekenders, which is sort of what we want to avoid.
