Which clothing stores in NYC have good casual/business casual clothes for larger men? My boyfriend and I are going clothes shopping this coming Saturday to prepare for an upcoming trip. He has a suit, but other than that, all his clothes are jeans and tees. For this trip, we are looking for: casual button down shirts (oxfords or plaids), non-jeans/non-khaki trousers, a sport coat or blazer, and some shoes that fall in between the New Balance sneakers he usually wears and the nice black shoes he wears with his suit. Sizes and price range below the cut. [more inside]
I've reached middle age, lost a ton of weight, and need to re-do my wardrobe. Where does a middle aged man shop for clothing in America? [more inside]
Misterben is seeking good-quality warm men's pajamas. LL Bean is excluded since the quality has dropped in recent years. Pants only or a set are OK. Flannel is preferable, although fleece will also be considered. The price should be approximately under $50 USD. Finally, they must not be made in China or from a brand that is known to use sweatshops. He loves US-made brands but we know that is hard to find at this price point.
For a bunch of reasons (some good, some bad) I have the next two and half months totally free. I don't have to do a thing, I have no reason to make any more money and I've got oceans of time, a nest egg of savings, and a gym membership. Previous times like this I've focused on making my skill-set or apartment better/fancier, but now I want to focus on myself. No creative projects, no learning and growing, just pure, unabashed vanity. What can I do in two and half months to get all kinds of pretty? Ideally during the day. [more inside]
Dressing as an adult... for men. I've spent a bunch of time randomly googling and browsing through clothing regailer sites and blogs, but haven't come across quite what i'm looking for. As a man who doesn't like to shop, I would love to find a web-site that has photos of people wearing clothing that I like... along with links to where I can purchase those clothes. Seems simple, right? Well, not so fast. [more inside]

Where can I go to find a well-cut suit? I'm 6'3" 190lbs and I'm sick of suits that look like they were made for me before I lost 60 lbs.

What is the noticeable difference between a $100 pair of men's dress shoes and a $500 pair of men's dress shoes? I wear standard, department store $100 dress shoes to work every day (I used to wear Cole Haan; now I wear Johnston & Murphy). When the $100 shoe soles wear out, I have them re-soled. They do end up looking beat-up fairly quickly, even with polishing. I have been told that, if I spend more money on the shoes, they will last longer and the investment will be worth it. [more inside]
Help me find images of handsome, manly men in white sweaters. I'm trying to convince my husband that a white sweater is as versatile as his dour browns, blacks and grays. If they are layered with shirts under or jackets over, all the better. Thank you!
I'm sartorially clueless. How would you describe this kind of shirt? It's a "dress shirt", sure, but how would you specify the fabric and cut (particularly that type of collar)? Here is another example. I'm looking to buy some shirts like these but when I go to department stores I can only find this sort of thing - which is cut completely differently and uses an extremely thin fabric. Help me articulate the differences.
Recommend unique, affordable men's clothing resale stores in Manhattan or Brooklyn? Hipster ok, or vintage. I'm looking mainly for short- and long-sleeve collared shirts.

I got him out of black t shirts all the time (they are fine, but not for everything) and into bowling shirts, camp shirts, cubavera shirts, or short sleeve guayabera type shirts (usually in black, only sometimes with a pinup girl on them). Now he needs something just like that but with LONG sleeves. [more inside]

I have never been the best in fashion, but I would like to be able to start to dress better. Is there a website out there that makes understanding men's fashion a bit easier? What goes with what, fashion from certain time periods, how to thrift shop and make it work for you... [more inside]
Clothesfilter: I'm looking for low-rise chinos/khakis for men. Banana/J Crew/etc fail me. Any ideas? I wear Levi's 527s in jeans, which fit perfectly. Bonus points: I've been thinking of trying Land's End's custom option, but I'm suspicious - does anyone have experience with that?
Well never thought I'd ask metafilter about this, but does anyone else have trouble finding pant sizes that fit? I'm a 30 waist which apparently is so skinny no stores carry it. Actually I can find stores that carry 30 inches but they don't fit, and when I measure they're always 1-2 inches larger. Which is a lot. It's as if stores have forgo a standard measurement sizes in favor of letting people fit into "smaller" sizes. My question is what to do? [more inside]
