When I was a child I was exposed to some very early anime. I remember fragments of it, but not what it was called, the plot or any reall relevant details. The general theme seemed to be that an evil...thing was trying to control the world. His primary henchman was a man whose power was to turn people into...mannequins seems to be the best fit. How much memory can my computer hold? My computer specs: Dell XPS 600 OS: WinXP Professional 5.1 SP2 (Build #2600) CPU: Intel Pentium D , 2.99 GHz, 1024KB Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX (1920x1200x32bpp 60Hz) I went on crucial.com and their scanner said my computer can have up to 8 gigs of memory but a friend of mine told me that XP can actually only hold 3 gigs of ram. How true is this? I currently have 2 gigs of ram and I was looking to go as high as 5 mainly because I work with After Effects a lot and rendering is a pain in the ass. Thanks in advance everyone.

I'm trying to find the title of a movie which frightened me as a child (40's/50's) In the movie, a young girl's mother has died & she has nightmares or fantasies about a killer who wears a feather. At the climax she sees the shadow of that feather coming for her & it turns out to be a lady's hat(the woman who is about to become her evil stepmother)maybe played by Bette Davis? & she is saved by her father. Is Firefox churning my Powerbook? When I have more than a few tabs open, I hear (and see- on my little menubar app) heavy hard drive activity. It feels like it gets stuck in some kind of endless swap and the performance of the machine seems to suffer. More importantly, the noise drives me nuts. I suspect Firefox memory management issues. I know Firefox has a bad rep in this dept. Suggestions? Tweeks? Opera?

Whenever I think of a person out of the past (I'm 67, and have an excellent recall of schoolmates and even casual acquaintances from the distant past) a mental thumbnail photograph of that person always pops into my thoughts. Accurate in every way. I find almost no names in memory without full face photographs, probably thousands of them. My question, is this a rare ability or is it common?

Is there a scientific name for the information gap between an event and the traces that we have of this event? [more inside]
I know many people, including myself, mistakenly repeat events in our lives to the same individual. However, I have a friend who constantly tells me same things repeatedly. Not nag me to do things, but tell me things that we’ve already discussed at length either verbally or through email. For instance, his car was broken into and his radio was stolen. He told me the day it happened and gave me all the facts. Then a week later, he raised the case again saying he had to go to the store and look for a new radio because his was stolen and he repeated all the facts. Then in an email the other day he told me that he bought a new radio for his car because a few weeks ago, his was stolen. He brings it up as if I’ve never heard it before. He doesn’t just do it with negative events. He does it if he gets a cool gift, or promotion, etc. I’ve told him before that he does this. I started feeling that I wasn’t important enough in his life for him to remember our interactions. I mentioned it to another friend and they laughed and said that he does it to them too which started to get me worried. Is there a psychological/medical reason that my friend does this and should I be worried about their health?
