There's a particular kind of movie scene I really like, where a character has forgotten their purpose (due to amnesia, magical fugue, etc -- not absent-mindedness), then remembers it and sets themselves back to the task at hand with a renewed sense of urgency. I have a campus job delivering newspapers, and must keep track of how many were left over from last week as well. The problem has two facets: one, I sometimes forget how many I just picked up less than 5 seconds after picking it up. I normally do not have a problem with this, except with names. Two, I lose the sheets where I record the numbers about one out of every two weeks. [more inside]
