I'm looking for something sleek and simple, that will allow people to check themselves in when they arrive (2 contexts, gym members, and youth in an after school program).

I want a list of sites/communities/forums that cost money to join but worth this money. I think that initial or continuous fee is a good filter against spammers. I am already member at somethingawful, and the great

Are you a member of Society for Neuroscience or ASBMB or FASEB or something similar? I have a doctorate in biochemistry/pharmacology. I've completely left academia and work at a small biotech firm as a scientist. I don't want to permanently narrow my field of interest, so I thought it would be helpful to become a member of one of the science societies and/or attend some conference(s) separately from those that come up for my job. I'm having trouble deciding on what would be the most efficient and enjoyable option.

Is there a legitimate reason for structuring membership dues (and initiation fees) of a club based on age levels beyond just the usual "student" vs "everyone else" levels? Specifically I'm speaking of the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

What's currently the best plug-in (paid or free) for setting up/moderating a membership-based level to an already existing web site? I'm not a programmer, so preferably something that's relatively easy to set up, looks good to the eye, is easy to navigate and offers nice customizing options. I'm using Wordpress right now, so one that works with wp would be *most* awesome. Oh, and I'm on a Mac. Thanks!!! :)

Looking at options to create a membership card for discounts at businesses, similar to a KCRW Fringe Benefits card. I haven't done this before so I'm not sure about which membership card manufacturers would be good to order from or about how the card technology itself works. Right now, getting the businesses and customers to cooperate is the easy part for me... I need to figure out how to make the card work and to be sure I can keep track of all member activity. Educate me please, if you can! Thank you! :)

I have recently been appointed the 'membership chair' for a hobby-related organization of which I have been a member for some years. The club president and I have agreed that my duties will consist largely of:
* Contacting members who have lapsed and inviting them to rejoin
* Devising various means of recruiting new members
I have no experience in this sort of work. I could definitely use pointers, suggestions, and especially referrals to any articles or books that may be relevant.

Has anyone heard of lifetime memberships at Gold's Gym? They don't list it on their website, and I can't find any reference to it online, but I thought I heard something about it recently (on TV?)... Ideally, I'd like to buy a membership that doesn't expire and allows me to use any Gold's Gym. I don't care if it is transferable. I would appreciate any information you might have on the matter.

I'm looking for a web-based app (free or otherwise) or a hosted app which will handle membership for a non-profit / club. It needs to provide different membership levels, handle payments (via PayPal or Google Checkout), and provide some method for allowing members to renew or upgrade their memberships, change their info as needed, etc. It does not need to be free, even though that would be nice.

I need to join a gym, and haven't belonged to one since a Y membership in 1996. Apparently, gyms don't tell you what they charge unless you go meet a sales rep in person. This seems extremely shady and sets off mental warning bells. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Forewarned is forearmed, etc.
(Auxillary question, possibly whinefilter; how do they get away with this? Why can't I comparison shop in a reasonable manner?)

Bestfares.com. Scam or worthwhile deals? Does anybody have experience with bestfares.com? It's a $60 annual membership to get, ostensibly, below "sale" prices on lots of fares. And they look cheap. 'm most interested in airfares only (US + Int'l) and not in cruises, Vegas junkets, or hotels. Is it worth it? Any other hot ideas for actually getting cheap fares to, say, Europe?
