How did you meet your significant other?

I'm a writer (read: I have not attempted to publish anything yet but I write. A lot.) I'm working on another novel and I want my writing to be as real and authentic as possible. However, I'm running into a gap in my life knowledge that I need your help with. (Please note: I'm not looking for you to post ideas or plot suggestions - I'm looking for a better understanding of real life, in all its messy and complicated glory, to draw from as I write this story.) How to meet awesome, smart people (especially guys) in UK (Edinburgh)?

I'm a girl in my late 20s, and I'm moving to Edinburgh in a few weeks. I'll be looking for work first and foremost, but I really need to develop a friendship network, and I'd love to date. I haven't done much dating so far, though. What are good ways to meet people (especially single men) of around my own age (maybe 26-35) who are awesome and smart? [more inside]

Is "meeting people" a valid life goal and antidote for neediness?

I find myself too invested in a situation which has turned out to be a No-Strings-Attached relationship . This person apparently has a huge social circle, whereas I am more of a loner. The bottom line is that I sense that she has plenty of options to choose from. I don't. And she has been explicit about this fact. The prospect of seeing her is generally the high point of my week. Her cancelling at the last minute because something else came up tends to be a real bummer. [more inside]

Making Friends and Dating in Madison, WI at Age 32

Hi all, I've gone through previous questions relating to live in Madison, and it looks like I'm far from the first person to feel like it's super hard to make friends or find dates here at age 32. Before I give up and move, which I am very much considering, I want to know if there are options I've overlooked as far as meeting people goes. [more inside]

Having difficulty making friends in the area

I'm wondering why I had a much easier time making friends in the last area where I lived than I have had in this area. I think it has to do with the way social media has changed, but I'm not sure that's the whole story. I've asked myself what gives. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]

We need clever things to write in chalk for a fun run.

I do a regular 5km free, timed run every Saturday. It's called parkrun if any of you have heard of it. It's around the world, so there's likely one near you. But that's not what I'm writing about. This Saturday coming it's themed. I'm not single, but a gazillion single people run it and they're hoping to meet someone... so the event director has asked that people dress in the colours of traffic lights. Red if you're not interested/taken, orange if you're not sure, green if you're looking to meet someone. [more inside]

Please help this introvert make new friends!

I have been an introvert for as long as I can remember. I do have a few good friends that I enjoy talking to, but usually they were the ones who befriended me, instead of the other way around. Now, because of changes of circumstances in my life, I would like to bring more new people into my life, more actively this time. Dear hive mind, please give me some tips on how I can do it.
