What's the fairest way to divvy up multiple options amongst a group?

My wife is starting a year of medical school rotations. There are 6 possible schedules for the year, and her group of 6 students must decide amongst themselves who gets which schedule. What's the fairest way to decide? It's completely up to the students, and everyone is friendly and open to discussion. [more inside]

If someone tells me to "manage expectations" one more time...

Having been inspired by the CBS Sunday Morning piece on a husband and wife team who, with no science background, went on to do amazing things as PhD biomedical students at Harvard, I feel like there still might be a chance at (re)building the life and story I imagined for myself. Starting over, with the goal of becoming a doctor. Help and hope me? [more inside]

Dealing w/ being an Average Jane engaged to a brilliant genius?

So I screwed up undergrad, pretty much eliminating the possibility of an academic career for myself, and got engaged to a guy who is in the most academic of careers. I'm envious and embarrassed about my lack of career path compared to his glittering academic future, and my current job is really not long-term sustainable. Hopeless, miserable, and alternating between feeling bitterly envious and then tortured by guilt for being such an unfair jerk, I'm being a bad partner, and I really don't know how to navigate all this. Finding the middle ground between monomania and apathy in studying

When studying, how do you find a balance between obsessively picking through every little detail to the point of burnout and falling back on a definition of "good enough" that really isn't good enough? I would especially be interested in suggestions for a context where there is a lot of reading thrown at you with little structure, like graduate or medical school. Any suggestions on how to structure such material without wasting time or burning out?

Where can I get data on avg step1 scores for medical residency programs?

I'm trying to find a list of US medical residency programs and the average step 1 scores of the applicants that are accepted into each program. Google has not been helpful. I've found match rates, quotas, test scores by specialty, and all sorts of other data. But nothing about test scores by residency program. Does anyone know if this data exists and where I can find it? Thanks in advance.

Is the sky no longer the limit? Getting back on track in med school

I had a rough start to medical school academically. People keep telling me that if I "do well" here on out, it "shouldn't matter" in four years when I apply to the next stage in my training (residency). That's easy for them to say, but I need more perspective than that. I'm bothered that it could put a "ceiling" on what I might be able to achieve otherwise. Those who have experience with medical education and academics, please give me your thoughts! [more inside]

How can I get through med school if I dislike group work?

I've just started medical school and the emphasis on group work is overwhelming me. I know that medicine is generally a team-oriented profession. I have certainly worked well in teams before, and found it enjoyable. I am affable and pulling my own weight is never an issue. Still, the fact that I have to work in a group for four hours a day, five days a week, is draining me like no other. I am angsty and tired. Please, fellow introverts and independent workers, especially those who are familiar with medical education -- how might you approach working in a heavily team-oriented environment? Details inside. Help me in going to med school in the Caribbean?

I am considering going to med-school in the Caribbean. I have everything completed pre-med except Organic Chemistry. I am wondering, Can FAFSA be awarded to those studying in Caribbean? I've looked at the list of schools on wikipedia and as far as I understand any that are labeled "offshore" will be recognized when I try to become licensed in USA, correct? Is there an easy way to find a list of which schools do not require the MCAT? Thanks.
