Feeling ill yesterday and today, with a fever, slight cough, stuffed nose, sore joints. Taking dayquil and nyquil, and keeping track of my temperature every few hours. What temperature means "go to the hospital?" What other symptoms re: the cough and nose might man go to the hospital?

I've been very disappointed with my doctor--she's obviously rushed and makes simple mistakes (like writing me a prescription for an over-the-counter medicine, telling me I need bloodwork but then not testing for the things she said she was going to, etc). I've also felt on several occasions that she didn't really listen to what I was saying to her.
I'm thinking of joining
this concierge medical center but I wanted to hear other people's experiences with this form of health care first.

I really like Atul Gawande's book "Better" as well as his article "Letting Go" - in general, topics about systems innovations in health care, especially end-of-life care. Anything else I should read?

I've been reading a lot of conflicting information about the U.S. health care reform bill (HR 3200) and its potential impact on different groups of Americans. I tried to read the bill, but it's over a thousand pages and is written in mind-numbing legalese. Is there a place online where I can find comprehensive, non-partisan, easily understandable information about the bill?

I am going to visit a doctor, but my Bluecross Blueshield/billing will not show his name and instead will show the doctor he reports to (according to the frond desk person), since he isn't in today. Sounds kind of strange to me. Is there anything I should be asking/should be aware of? (Or is this normal?)

My Flexible Spending Account (
FSA) has about $250 left on it to be used by the end of December - it's use it or lose it, so I'm looking for ideas on the most useful things I can spend this money on within the next 3 weeks. I am potentially interested in stocking a basic medicine cabinet items that would be useful for a baby/ small child.

Are you a nurse practitioner? Know one? My fiancee is in the very beginning steps to becoming one and we'd like to hear from you: what's your day like? Do you enjoy it? And-- do you need to become an RN before becoming a nurse practitioner? We've heard different opinions on it. Any and all information/opinions appreciated!

Is there somewhere online--maybe a government site--where you can check the credentials of U.S. doctors? (As in, have they been sued 20 times for malpractice, where did they go to med school, etc.) When I search for something like that, I get spambot hell and/or paid services. I need to go to a specialist and don't have the luxury of knowing enough people here to get a recommendation.
