I have a cold. I have to talk to talk to a few groups of people in the next 48 hours, and want to avoid excessive coughing, crazy hoarseness, etc. Any advice?

Alright, so it's cold/flu/etc season and my roommate brought home a package of Emergen-c. He welcomed me to it, so I figured what the heck, I'll take a look at it. Then I noticed it says you can take it post-workout, which spiked my interest because I'm a self-described 'gym bum.'

I've got a cold. I've been drinking fluids and getting rest, but is there anything I can take that will actually help me get better? Also, what treatments are purely psychosomatic? I've always suspected echinacea.
