Prescription drugs in Singapore

Traveling to Singapore with lawfully prescribed prescription medication including antidepressant/antianxiety drugs (klonopin, wellbutrin, and paxil.) Is it sufficient to pack these in carry-on luggage in their original bottles? Is a doctor's letter necessary/recommended? (Nothing says overcautious like "mandatory death penalty.") Thanks.

Lamictal for depression?

Is Lamictal effective for treating depression? I have a life-long history of depression with a 20 year history of SSRI use. They are effective. Recently I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and a new doctor, after one meeting has taken me off Zoloft saying it would make the mania aspect of bi-polar worse and Lamictal is the only treatment needed for depression. She actually said it was an anti-depressant. I know my depression is worse, getting even more so and, because of my HMO am having trouble finding a second opinion. Does anyone have experience with Lamictal as an effective anti-depressent?

Why are so many anti-psychotic drugs prescribed?

I just read in the NYT that Zyprexa (an atypical anti-psychotic, used to treat schizophrenia and mania) is the fourth-most prescribed drug in the world. Other lists I've seen put similar drugs in the top-ten sellers. How can this be? Are there that many people suffering from these disorders compared to being medicated for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or any of a dozen other maladies I can think of that appear, on general observation, to be far more common? (And I don't believe, neccessarily, that this is simply doctors overprescribing - because, at least to me, that premise would mean overprescribing all drugs, not just the ones in question, right?)

Should I claim my psychiatric meds on my insurance?

Here's the situation: I changed health insurance plans about two years ago ago. I have a good plan, based in Californa, that costs me about $250 a month. Since starting the coverage, my major medical expense - for about a year - have three monthly medications which I take for recently-diagnosed bipolar disorder. I have never claimed these expenses on my insurance, nor have I ever put any of my psychiatric costs on a claim. The reason is that I've been advised not to do this, especially with a bipolar diagnosis, since, in the words of my psychiatrist, "once that's on your record, you'll have a very hard time if you need to change insurance plans." (I should add that the diagnosis, while scary, and the resulting treatment, has changed my life so much for the better that I'd sell pretty much sell a kidney to keep paying for the meds, if I had to.)
