Doctor-Filter: I have an appointment scheduled to see a doctor this afternoon about some... sensitive issues. I'm wondering how free I should be with the information I give them, and whether or not certain factors might discourage them from giving me the treatment I feel like I need. [more inside]

Traveling to Singapore with lawfully prescribed prescription medication including antidepressant/antianxiety drugs (klonopin, wellbutrin, and paxil.) Is it sufficient to pack these in carry-on luggage in their original bottles? Is a doctor's letter necessary/recommended? (Nothing says overcautious like "mandatory death penalty.") Thanks.

I just read in the NYT that Zyprexa (an atypical anti-psychotic, used to treat schizophrenia and mania) is the fourth-most prescribed drug in the world. Other lists I've seen put similar drugs in the top-ten sellers. How can this be? Are there that many people suffering from these disorders compared to being medicated for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or any of a dozen other maladies I can think of that appear, on general observation, to be far more common? (And I don't believe, neccessarily, that this is simply doctors overprescribing - because, at least to me, that premise would mean overprescribing all drugs, not just the ones in question, right?)

I thought of asking this question in response to this comment, but thought it was better off here:
Why are legal drug prices so expensive. As a biochemistry major, I see first-hand how expensive very simple reagents and machines are to create simple research. It seems somewhat reasonable that in my naive on little world, drug prices are somewhat justified by the cost of r&d. Are there any reports out there of where drug companies spend their money. i.e., can I see how much are sent on salaries, equipment, court fees, etc to get more of an understanding of drug company costs and profits, especially since I'll probably being getting a job at one in a few months. Also, info on why drugs (beyond their being greedy) are so expensive in The States (or so I hear) vs. other parts of the world would be useful, too.

Kitty downers? One of our cats is an older ragdoll. He's generally very sweet and lives to snuggle. About a year ago, however, he started up with night crying - around 3 in the morning he wakes up and will. not. shut. the. &*@#. up. He has access to food, water, clean litter; the vet says there's nothing physically wrong with him. The cat's been sleeping in the basement so that we can sleep. He's not happy with this and yowls disconsolately most of the night, so loudly that we can hear it two floors away. I'd really like to get him back to normal. Any ideas? Experience with kitty sleeping pills?
