Name that medication! Vaguely remembered medication from the early to mid-1980s. I was mildly depressed, feeling in a rut. I went to a Kaiser psychiatrist in San Diego, CA. He prescribed a small, white pill that I took for a relatively short time (don't think I refilled the 'scrip)--it was great, no side effects, just elevated my mood enough that I could do other stuff to help myself: started exercising, lost some weight, got out of the house more...just felt better. The records from that time are long gone--I checked. Any ideas about what it might have been?

Please help me make a plan to deal with the aftermath of this episode of severe depression. For various reasons I would really prefer not to be enrolled in college
again next semester. It's long, I'm sorry, but I wrote this too quickly to pare things out.

Am I depressed because I hate my job? or do I hate my job because I'm depressed? Quitting is a bad idea, right? What about going to a psychiatric hospital? (warning: long)

How does someone know if a stimulant medication (adderall) is helping them the way it was intended to for ADD, or if they are searching for a reason to continue a substance that makes them feel good (aka addictive behaviors)?
Where is the line between a "need for functioning" and "it makes me feel better therefore I function better"?
Don't most people function better on a stimulant?

Have you used anti-depressants successfully? How did you deal with the insinuating little voice that said, "You may be feeling better, but it's really just the pills--without them, deep down, you're still a sad/angry/dysfunctional person."

Is Lamictal effective for treating depression? I have a life-long history of depression with a 20 year history of SSRI use. They are effective. Recently I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and a new doctor, after one meeting has taken me off Zoloft saying it would make the mania aspect of bi-polar worse and Lamictal is the only treatment needed for depression. She actually said it was an anti-depressant. I know my depression is worse, getting even more so and, because of my HMO am having trouble finding a second opinion. Does anyone have experience with Lamictal as an effective anti-depressent?
