How to skip the wait for a doctor

How can I get a quick appointment with a medical specialist? I have gastroparesis and it has recently gotten bad - I am significantly underweight and I am continuing to lose weight because I am not able to take in enough calories. I have gone to a couple of generalist gastroenterologists before but they didn't help me at all. I found some gastroparesis specialists a couple hours away from me, but the next available appointment isn't until the summer. I have done some research and haven't found any other nearby doctors with this specialty. Does anyone know of a strategy I can use to get an earlier appointment? [more inside]

Atypical Glandular Cells of Undetermined Significance

My wife's PAP just came back showing "atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance". We are both concerned, and I'm having a hard time finding any useful information about what this is likely to mean in terms of prognosis, treatment, etc... So far, everything I've found has been either too superficial to be helpful or too dense to understand. Can anyone point us to some fairly in-depth information that won't overwhelm us with medical-speak? At this point, we're both scared, and any information at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Multiple Sclerosis, Autism and Acoustic Neuromas - Connection?

I married into a family with the following medical history: the mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her 50s, her daughter was diagnosed with an vestibular schwannoma in her 40s, and her grandson from another daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome and epilepsy when he was 7. These are seemingly separate issues except that while educating myself on them I kept bumping into connections with the myelin sheath. Turns out that each of these conditions are, or thought to be linked to this same group of cells which cover nerves. I casually mentioned this to a neurologist and was quickly dismissed as crazy, but isn't it possible if not likely that there's an as-yet undiscovered genetic link connecting all of these conditions? Has anyone ever studied such a connection?

Diabolical Medical System From Hell

I just got health insurance for the first time in my adult life (thanks a bunch America), through my spouse's company. It seems like fairly robust insurance, and I would love to finally get treatment for my debilitating anxiety and possible ADHD. But I am so fearful of having these things on my medical record and possibly causing future insurance problems, that I am hesitant to make any appointments. Am I justified in these concerns? Are there things I can do to mitigate the repercussions? [more inside]

Back pain and swollen lump at base of spine

My gf has a swollen puffy lump about 2.5" wide on the base of her spine, no discoloration or pain, it just appeared at the same time she got a sudden sharp stabbing pain in her right lower back - are these 2 things related, if so, can anyone tell us what it means? TB or not TB? That's my question.

My wife and I had injections for a TB test on Monday morning (we're adopting our second child and had to get the test). We had to come in Wednesday morning at 9:45 to see if the injection caused any problems. The NP told us everything was fine and we were TB negative. It's several days later now - Thursday evening - and I'm fine, but my wife has enormous bumps/hives right at the injection site on her arm. I'm assuming the TB test shot is some kind of totally inert drug so you can't actually get sick from it. Why would a disease that we were supposedly negative for cause hives? Is she allergic to something else? Help! Should we just go to the DR now? The hives are pretty weird. Neither of us has any food allergies of any kinds.
