What is fair compensation at a start-up?

I'm a medical student, taking a year off before residency. During the year, I'm going to be working for a new start up that creates medical apps. I will be creating content for their apps and working on their social media strategy. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can determine what I should be paid, and/or how to negotiate it? Should I excercise my damaged knee or should I baby it more?

I have an ACL injury from a motorcycle accident two years ago. I have noticed in the past 6 months it has gotten much worse. Should I excercise more or less? My ass, it's sore.

How can I treat a minor pressure sore on the right side of my butt, right where the bone is? I sit all day and all night...I do exercise every other day and I do try to relieve direct pressure by laying on the floor and playing with the dog at night. However, at least 12 hours a day of sitting/working in front of a computer trumps all that. I have good office chairs but the one at work (which would take an act of congress to replace) has bottomed out. Guess I'm looking for a several things to do...gel cushion options if any discreet ones are out there, topical treatments, whatever anyone may have found that works.

What procedure will kill my eye vein?

I went to a ENT/facial surgeon recently for something unrelated, and I asked the doctor, who also does facial plastic surgery, what I could do about a large vein I have under my right eye. He had me speak with a woman in the office, and she told me, after looking at my vein(s), about a procedure for veins like mine (not spider veins) wherein they inject saline into the vein and then it goes away. What procedure is that? How much does it cost? Do you have a recommendation for a place in Philadelphia, PA? [more inside]

Pre-existing condition technicality

My wife just purchased health insurance for herself. Today is her first day of coverage. She has been experiencing back pain and nerve pain in her leg for the better part of a week, however. If she goes to the doctor today and they send her for an MRI (which we're certain they will) and subsequently decide to do surgery (we think she has a slipped/bulging/herniated disc) is there a chance the claims processor at the insurance company will question paying for any of these services? Attack of the cold feet

I feel a bit stupid asking this, but this has been bugging me for a while: is there some illness that can affect women if they get cold feet? This sounds like an old wives tale, however my wife and mother-in-law get very animated about this, particularly with regard to our 8 year old daughter. Unfortunately I have never managed to get much more detail other than a vague mention of kidneys. My google-fu fails me with regard to even the mention of this as a myth, however I am willing to accept that there is some sort of feminine genitourinary complaint that men are not widely aware of. I would just be happier if I knew exactly what it was. [more inside]

Are my dad's doctors making him sicker?

This is my first Ask MeFi question, and I'm asking on behalf of my parents. My father is in reasonably good physical health but poor mental health, which may be related to the meds he's on and the "quality" care he's getting in the American "system". Are there some kind of additional resources for me or them to help make their way through the bureaucrat-ese and get some better care? And maybe some additional health care (or heck, elder care in general) resources I could find for them? [more inside]
