The majority of my friends are in medical school and are graduating this year. I'm a baker and wanted to give them all small gifts that are cute/tasty/medical or graduation-related. The only thing I could think of is decorated cookies (I do shortbread or brownie cookies) but any suggestions on shapes? Nothing too complicated, please! [more inside]
I'm a 27 year old male. I've noticed my hair has been thinning out and receding my hairline over the last year. Is there anything I can do to keep it sticking around for a while longer? I didn't expect to be witnessing this before I'm 30. Can a doctor help?

I'm looking for resources regarding certain types of medical devices, ones that produce some sort of measurement or data, eg a Visual Field Analyzer, Ultrasound or an OCT machine. The type of data I'm looking for is stuff like sales numbers, how many are still currently in use, or where they're in use (which field, small clinics versus large hospitals, US or international). My focus is on legacy devices and Ophthalmology, but any data is useful.

I had surgery in October of 2010, paid all of the expenses past insurance, etc., and haven't heard from the hospital in 2 years. I've since moved, and received a bill yesterday for $138 that is "leftover from my surgery." The bill is dated February 13, but since the mail was forwarded, I just received it yesterday. I have no idea a) why I'm receiving this bill now or b) what it's actually for, and my contact with the hospital has yielded absolutely nothing. The charges it lists are nearly identical to those that are on the bills I (thankfully) saved post-surgery. I've called their billing department a couple of times, to no avail. The gist of the conversations: "It's for the surgery. Pay it." What are my options?
I recall being directed to a site/blog which had short anecdotes, submitted by users, about bad experiences with gynos/doctors/nurses, often focussing on hospitals/childbirth etc. A similar interface to fmylife.com On a specific day of the week they showcased the opposite, good experiences and health professionals who went out of their way to provide care. Does anyone know which site this is? I think I may have even found it through AskMeFi, but a search turned up nothing. Thanks.
I'm almost certain I just severed the tendon in my pinky...the bleeding is under control but I cannot bend it. I have severe fear of ER costs due to bad past experiences that cost me lots and lots of money. How bad is this, and can it wait for an Urgent Care place? [more inside]

I was in an minor accident in the U.S. last September (broke my foot). At the time, my workplace travel insurance seemed to have covered everything just fine -- I went to the clinic, gave them my paperwork, they made some calls, said I was covered and I didn't even need to provide a credit card. Just today, I got a call telling me I owe the clinic $500. Do I care? [more inside]

I recently accepted a sales position within a company that sells laboratory equipment. (i.e. centrifuges, GC's, HPLC's, Thermal Cyclers, etc) I have no previous lab or science experience, so learning about a myriad of highly technical products/methods is a quite challenging. My main challenge comes from the fact that I need to engage in conversations with scientists, chemists, biologists on a daily basis. With no previous lab experience, I've been having a hard time talking to them on technical level. [more inside]

YANMD - I just discovered from 2 recent bloodworks that my 15 year old son’s non-fasting glucose levels are in the mid-60’s after eating what could be considered a “carb bombs” – cake, hot chocolate among other carby things. I volunteer with Cinterandes in Ecuador, a humanitarian effort that goes to remote areas and performs surgeries for people who can't access services otherwise. They use iphones for tele-medicine applications and are looking for donations of older version iphones. They could use 20 more. Is there a place where I can post a request for such donations that would reach a large number of iphone users? They have a 501.c.3 presence in Miami where phones can be sent.
My doctor's office billed me up front for an IUD and told me I would be reimbursed. Today, after calling them repeatedly, I found out that they have not filed a claim for the device, and they couldn't give me a satisfactory explanation as to why. I have no idea what to do now. [more inside]

I went to the ER. The doctor claims to not honor my insurance's discount. My insurance claims the doctor is in network and should honor it. I did not pay the difference and it has now gone to collections. The collections agency said I signed an agreement to pay all fees, so I'm on the hook for this amount. (But I obviously disagree.) How should I proceed? [more inside]
