I have a Mac Mini that I'm using as a media center running Plex. I want to be able to watch the media stored there (a couple terabytes of AVIs, MP4s, etc...) from anywhere I am, on a laptop or hopefully even on my iPhone. Is there any hardware/software solution that will help with this?

I'm looking for a quote which goes along the lines of:
"When a new media comes along people try to apply the rules that governed the older one to it."
I've Googled it to no avail, any idea what the exact quote and an attribution? (It's possibly Henry Jenkins or Pierre Levy, but I'm not sure.)

What's the best time for a travel writer to pitch a story to an editor? Before the trip, when you still have some flexibility? Or after, so you don't have to retract your well-worded promises when the place/angle turns out to be a dud?

Are 911 calls public domain? I mean you hear clips from 911 calls (in the USA) on the news. Are they made available to the media through some kind of freedom of information regulation? Or do both parties (the dispatcher and the caller) have to agree to it? Why are they released? and does the calling party have any kind of privacy rights (they can be pretty awful calls and stressful/horrific etc).

Now that I'm a mother, I'm hypersensitive to portrayals of child abuse or child death in movies and books. I just woke up from a nightmare induced by a novel that culminated in the murder of a child. How do I depersonalize violent media depictions of children? It's a terrible feeling to have some book or some movie eat away at me because I've inappropriately projected the situation onto my own daughter and let the book/movie play off irrational parental fears.

I am confused as to the use of the word "allegedly" and why it is used outside of a strictly legal sense (in the media for example)? For instance, with this most recent shooting in Texas, there are obviously dozens of eye witnesses, only one suspect under consideration, no one is going to argue in court that someone else did it, so why on the news are the anchors still saying Mr. Hasan "allegedly" shot these people? It just seems weird...

Browsing today's newspapers here in Scotland it would seem that there is an anti-Scottish feeling pervading the whole of the USA after the compassionate release of the Pan-Am bomber last week.
Question1: Am I right in thinking that this is the case, or is it just right wing neo-con nonsense eminating from the Fox News stable?
Question2: If this anti-Scottish feeling does exist, how best can I explain that we the UK/US public have been sold a lie by our Governments and that this guy was merely a patsy?

I'm trying to figure out my options for setting up a small digital media lab for a new non-profit, but I have no idea how to set a minimum level of server specs! How much CPU and RAM do I really need? What determines this?
The server will be used to administer local user accounts, and store files (including large media files). We may also end up using it to host our website and mail, if it makes sense (unlikely). All the main client computers will be macs, so I assume I should make life easier and just get an XServe. But I'm open to other suggestions.
See below for some prices and models for various XServe's I'm trying to choose between. How low can I go? How much CPU/RAM do I need?
Let me know if you need more information...

Suggest a model for a money-making, or at least self-sufficient, website dedicated to a region or small city something like "Mayberry Online." Probably advertising driven, dedicated to news, events, listings, but with active forums for 'consumer gripes,' local politics, advice columns, restaurant reviews, arts, sports, health, pets & wildlife. Think 'city paper' or alternative press but online, with an active Craigslist component. Any thing like that out there? Suggestions on website design/creation/start-up consultants would be an added bonus. Links please to worthy existing sites that fit the bill. And, TIA
