The man can be overbearing, inserting his opinion instead of closing his mouth and opening his wallet, am I right? According to Michael Ian Black on a recent, awkward episode of WTF
, the cast of The State bristled at MTV's suggestion that they add recurring characters to their sketches. As a fuck you to MTV, they created a character whose catch phrase, "I want to dip my balls in it"
became a sensation. Know of any other creative fuck yous that have become cultural phenomena or were otherwise successful despite their intent?

Can you recommend books, short stories, academic pieces, movies, tv shows, and other media that explore the boundaries (and their blurring) between male bonding, friendship, camaraderie, hero worship and more "platonic" relations and homoeroticism/homosexuality? That delve into the lines between liking, love, lust, admiration, and feelings of belonging?

I would like to buy a home entertainment system. I would like to listen to music, watch television, movies, and play videogames. I would like to have Netflix. I would like to stream media from my network or the cloud. I want great sound but I am not an audiophile, although I am not averse to spending a lot on speakers. I do not want to spend more than 8 hours doing research. I will spend up to $2500-$3000. How do I attack this problem? Can you recommend specific TV's, receivers, speakers, or stuff like a Roku box? Can you recommend sites that provide easy to understand, objective reviews of equipment like TelevisionInfo
? I do not want to hit the forums if I don't have to. Can you recommend specific configurations of equipment or point me to sites that supply this information. I feel like if I don't get pointed in the right direction, I am going to over analyze this and spend far too much time that I don't have. I just want a rocking home entertainment solution for my family that I won't want to upgrade a week later.

How do TV channels figure out how many people watched a particular episode (e.g. XX million watched American Idol)?
I often hear things like XX million viewers watched American Idol or some other show.
How do the news guys / broadcasters come up with these numbers??
Surely they are not able to track what is being watched in peoples homes.
So I guess this is some kind of math or projection. Any idea how this is done?

Looking for confirmation of a story from the 1988 or 1992 US general election. A few GOP partisans at a Bush Sr. rally started jeering media members, who wound up feeling uncomfortable and maybe unsafe. When Bush was made aware of it, he was almost uncomprehending-- "how could anyone take campaign rhetoric so seriously?", was the general take on his response. Google searching "Bush + media" isn't getting me there. Anyone else know this story better, or have confirmation or debunking?

I have heard that during the past decade the US government began to restrict journalists from publishing images of wounded and dead soldiers, as well as coffins. The goal, arguably, is to both manipulate public perception of war and respect the privacy of soldiers. This is in contrast to the Vietnam era, when images of the dead and dying were commonly published. Are there any great websites or articles about this phenomenon? Are these restrictions still in place under the Obama administration?
