Catalog application: I'm looking for a lite or open source app, to Catalog all files, folders & media on my PC & Mac ,that can be saved in pdf. I can search , store on my PCs and Macs,so that when I create a backup volume, I can know what is on it.
I have tried a few lite and open source apps, but dislike ones I tried ( PixDiskat 1.08 ,Media Catalog Studio Lite 5.9, MediaMonkey because it conflicts with itunes)

Please recommend good websites and blogs about computer/internet/social media security issues, someplace where I can find out about the latest scams, phishing attempts, malware, etc. I don't really like Snopes, due to the pop-under ads (what is up with that, anyway?). Thank you.

A colleague and I are writing a book chapter on social media, and we have been unable to find or make up terms for one distinction we would like to make. What is a good, compact term for 'information that is endorsed or supported by a credentialed expert on the subject or is agreed to be true by a community of experts'?

What are some examples of media (movies, TV shows, commercials, or anything really) where text or data appears to have a real physical presence or materiality? Is there a name for the technique where you have words or graphics on screen that people or things can move around or destroy? When did this start becoming common? Are there similar examples from further back in the history of media?

I have long held a fantastic dream of what I want my home theater
setup to be. I've tried several times, in several different ways, to
realize this dream - but there is always something. There's always
something that doesn't work right - that makes my final implementation
lacking in some fundamental way. I'm starting to give up hope. So -
I'll tell you what I want and what I've tried - and I want you to tell
me if there's another way. I can't be alone here.

Help Me Be A Good Web Editor! Please? Hi! The media outlet where I work has recently started a news web site, and I'm the editor. I have a vague idea of what I'm doing, but the actual copyediting-type-stuff I've been doing to AP print standards. I don't have a specific question, but generally, I'd really like to get some of the "official" basics of web editing down. I looked on mediabistro and they don't seem to have a class for this, and I looked on Amazon but I'm not sure about those books. Any suggestions for resources? I'd love either a class or a book that's as useful as the AP Guide, but for print. Your thoughts, hivemind?

Certain news stories are predictable in advance-- because they cover stories that happen every year (like the Oscars or the Super Bowl); or because they cover events you can see coming a long time away (like the 500th birthday of some historical personage.)
Is there any comprehensive list of Things That Will Probably Be In The News Next Year? I'm looking for something like
this weekly preview from CNN, but over a longer timescale.

Mafia fictional dialogue filter: What's the scene from where the two mobsters are talking to each other -- and, wanting to make it clear that they are merely speculating and not conspiring, one says "We're not *talking* about this, we're just *talking* about this"? Have you seen any sites -- mainstream media or other -- that use Twitter in an innovative way relating to breaking news? I'm especially interested in ways that readers participate, but would also look at ways the sites get the news out to their users. Examples might be the site asks readers to tweet reactions to an earthquake from the scene, or to tweet their picks for an upcoming football game, and the site then uses this information in some way. (Facebook and other social media innovations are also of interest, but mostly looking for Twitter info.) Thanks!
