I've never kept my media in anything other than their original cases, but my DVD's take up too much room and I want to put them into some sort of organizer. Any product reccomendations or advice would be appreciated!

You generate a lot of video/audio/etc. You're a professional, but not a network or tv station, so you don't have millions of dollars to spend on media archiving and backup. What are your digital media backup and storage strategies?

As a father of two little snippers and inspired by a recent
advert for Google in which emails are sent to a gmail address detailing a childs life to look back on in future years - how good a way is this to create a multi media archive for posterity? Is it possible to archive entire gmail accounts offline for backup? Concerned that the various external HDs I use to backup will fall apart in the sands of time.

I'm looking for software to manage an 8-terabyte media library including audio, video, and photos. Ideally the software would include a web server component to allow you to browse the library remotely.

I bought my mac laptop just before digital media became the thing. That said, my internal hard drive just can't hold it all. There are a lot of variations on this question on the hive and other places, but I am having trouble finding an answer to a basic question. How fast does a external hard drive need to be to play music and video off of without hiccups or interruption? Want to spend <$100 if I can.
