Any good, scientifically-accurate media on retrograde amnesia?

Open to fiction and nonfiction; books, documentaries, podcast episodes, news articles, etc. Nothing that puts me to sleep, please. Would prefer newer works informed by the latest science and works that are more personal, emotional, and detailed, rather than removed, dry, and general. Also, while I realize anterograde amnesia is much more common, I'm really only interested in retrograde amnesia. What caused the RA does not matter.

Gaffes and blunders from The Economist

My media players keep skipping, is this a sign of a RAM problem?

For several months now the media players on my PC "skip" when playing music. At first I thought it was just WMP but it's happened on iTunes and JRiver Media Jukebox as well. This PC is a Dell, about three years old, and replacing it just isn't going to happen this year. I've reinstalled audio drivers, even reinstalled Windows 10. All to no avail. [more inside]

Earliest instance of Atlantis-as-spaceship depiction in media?

I've been watching the 1978-1979 Hanna-Barbera Godzilla series with my son. There's one episode where the characters encounter the lost city of Atlantis, which turns out to be an alien spaceship. The depiction is similar to the Atlantis city/ship from the Stargate TV series. I'm wondering when the earliest depiction of Atlantis as spaceship occurred. [more inside]

Looking for opinions on Media Temple for hosting a blog....

I quit my old life in search of a new one. Now one is emerging...

Last year my wife and I jacked in our jobs, sold our apartment and travelled the country for a while. We were expecting to refine our ideas as to what we would do next, but instead - we found out we were having a baby. Cut to now and we realised we had to cut our trip short, came back to my folks place 'temporarily' and the baby has just been born. We're all consumed by the baby and ecstatic that he is here, but we're now worried about what we do next. An opportunity has presented itself that could be really interesting for us, but doesn't pay and is a leap into the unknown. We don't know what to do. More inside... [more inside]

Help finding an episode of On the Media from a snippit

Hi, I'm trying to put together a week of lectures on Women in Refrigerators for my students and I have gone and found Gail Simone's old list and looked at Feminist Frequency's episodes for Bitch Magazine, and I have some passages from a myth textbook and Joseph Campbell's work. But I want to add one of my favorite podcasts, On the Media. I vaguely remember the host Brooke Gladstone talking to a guest once and she says that when she was younger and she remembers watching those old black and white movies like Perils of Pauline she remembers there being something vaguely erotic or sexual about the way that the evil villains would tie up the damsels in distress and leave them on the railroad tracks, and she may have said she wrote her masters thesis on it? But I can't find a thesis on Proquest or JStor that Brooke published, anyone with a fantastic memory?

NY Times Weekender Nostalgia Post

The Internet appears to have swallowed an almost ten-year old commercial from the NYTimes about its (then new) Weekender subscription service, which included the famous "Saturdays, the word alone makes me happy" comment. It was parodied here by the 92Y Tribeca (RIP) and was then revised by the NY Times. I am, however, looking for the original ad that ran in 2006 (according to this Time article). Was even able to locate the abridged version of the commercial, but can't find the original. MeFi's can you help me save this from the internet rabbit hole?

What to do when a newspaper borks your freelance submission?

My wife has started doing some freelance writing, and her first story will be published in tomorrow's edition of our local newspaper. Yay! Unfortunately, someone in the editorial chain made several errors, including misspelling a simple word in a section they (poorly) rewrote, and misspelling the name of one of the subjects of the story in several of the photo captions.
