Does anyone have recommendations for a voice teacher in the DC area, preferably Northern Virginia? I'm a 58-year old male lead singer in a band. The band does mostly rock and country, with bluegrass and Great American Songbook stuff thrown in for good measure. I'm interested in extending my baritone range (I don't have a head voice or falsetto at all) and increasing power and volume. A couple of years ago I bought Roger Love's Set Your Voice Free
, and I practice the vocal exercises daily, but that's the extent of my formal practice.

The first day of tap dance class is on Monday, and due to an ordering snafu, the tap shoes I ordered online won't get here in time. Where in the DC/MD area can I buy a pair of tap shoes tomorrow? I'm a women's size 7.

How would you compare a somewhat-expensive MSW program with a detour to post-bacc premed education (& subsequent bid for med school)? For somebody passionate about kids, disability, and cross-cultural wellness. [more inside]

My boyfriend has a progressively disabling illness -- a form of muscular dystrophy. He will lose the ability to walk and easily get out of bed, etc., in about 10-15 years. We've been together for five very happy years, but that said, we are young (early 20s) and don't have many responsibilities other than school. My friends really like him, and so does my family. We've been very open with one another and have great communication. However, my parents are adamant that I find somebody else due to his illness. They won't force me to break up with my boyfriend, because they know he's a fantastic person, but will continuously express discontent when I hang out with him. [more inside]

Looks like I'll have one day free in Annapolis (work trip) in early April. Anything cool to do? There are heaps of museums, any favorites? Anything doing on Chesapeake Bay that time of year?
Thanks in advance.

CrossroadsFilter. PhD or MD? I could invest an extra year into attending a one-year special master's degree program that, upon success, would pretty much guarantee admission into medical school. I'd be a 28-year-old first-year medical student. But what about babies? [more inside]

I'm looking for extremely primitive beach camping sites (preferably on the Chesapeake) in the DC/MD/VA area. I'm talking about places with no running water, no bathrooms, nothing but nature for miles around. Assateague Island's backcountry camping sites
are a perfect example of what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm seeking opinions... What is the best place to live if you're commuting to the Union Station area of Washington, DC? I'm open to anything, but, I need to buy a relatively affordable house. Also, my Mom lives in Frederick, my Dad lives in Baltimore, and my brother-in-law lives on Capitol Hill. It would be nice to be somewhat central to all of them. For a bonus point: Are there any towns that are simply so great (have a great downtown/restaurants, etc...) they are worth consideration regardless of these other factors?

I own a house near College Park, MD and am renting it out to tenants now. The problem is the yard, which is in a real state of disrepair. Because I'm thinking about selling it next year, perhaps, I'd like some advice on taking a troublesome yard to a selling feature for as little money as possible. I assume I'll need to have the yard re-seeded, but I don't know what else is required or might help the situation. Keep in mind that I won't be there to do any of the work myself-- I'll be relying on 3rd parties to do it... Any words of wisdom from people who know something about this stuff?
