Is there a Mac (PowerPC) optimized build of Firefox 3.0.9 available?

Is there a Mac (PowerPC) optimized build of Firefox 3.0.9 available? I've been using ElFurbe's build of 3.0.1 for I-don't-know-how-long. But only because I can't find a PPC-optimized Firefox build after that one. And no, I don't know very much about compiling codes and such.

Melbourne to Brisbane: inland by camper

We’re hoping to rent a camper van in Melbourne (approx April 13), drop it off in Brisbane a week later. Any advice? There’s a good discussion about driving through Australia here:
http://ask.metafilter.com/52325/Help-me-cross-Australia-in-March

What we’re looking for are some specific suggestions for going inland from Melbourne to Brisbane. For example, we’d like to get a respectful sense of the bush fire devastation and recovery efforts, maybe have a couple stops in some of the wine valleys, find misc things like the sculpture Nick Cave is supposed to be building, plus whatever outback flavour we might soak up without going too far off track -- anything we wouldn’t find in the guidebook.

Any tips about camper rental and travel in Australia are also appreciated, even if it’s just appropriate driving music. We’re not totally committed to the van either -- as much as anything it’s a case that the camper rental companies seem more flexible on one way drives than companies who rent small cars.

Two important parameters:

1) We’ll have already spent a week in and around Sydney and don’t need to head that direction.

2) Quite a few years ago I drove from Melbourne to Tibooburra via the Great Ocean Road, Bendigo, Mildura, Broken Hill, popping up to White Cliffs. One of the most amazing drives of my life, but I’d like to see as much new terrain as possible on this trip.

We certainly don’t need to go in the straightest fastest line either, and I don’t mind under or overshooting Brisbane by a day’s drive, if it means a more interesting route. (Would be quite keen, for instance, to spend time in the rainforest area between Byron Bay and Nimbin.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

Where to find cheap photocopies in San Francisco?

Where can I get cheap photocopies in San Francisco? Is there anywhere in the city cheaper than Kinkos or OfficeMax? I need to make about 1,000 copies for a class I'm teaching--a 40-page workbook plus a bunch of handouts, black/white, single-sided.

In Berkeley there's a 3- or 4-cent copy place, but I haven't found any in San Francisco. Help! And thanks!

richest live-interactive music

Live instrument(s) plus Max/MSP or PD or other live-interactive audio setup. What are the richest, most musically interesting pieces you've heard in this genre? "Rich" and "interesting" by your own definitions, of course. (And I would love to hear anything you want to say about your definitions.)

I'm looking for pieces that best counter some of the existing stereotypes about live-interactive music (lack of depth / lack of complex structure / noodling / tech purely for tech's sake).

help me pick a OSX personal database?

Mac Mess Filter: help me choose personal database software. OK, so I've got a Mac and I can't find anything on it because I'm a slob that just saves everything in one "bucket".
How's that working out for me? Not so great.
By "personal database" I don't mean something like Access or OO.org's Base, keeping track of a vast record collection; I mean something that will take scans, PDFs, old emails, web clips, screenshots, etc. as drag-and-drop and do most of the searching/indexing for you.
Right now I just have all that kind of thing scattered all over my desktop - every so often when the desktop gets too crowded, I just sweep it all into a folder and hope I don't need/can find it in there at some later date.

I got a chance to use another Mac that had SOHO Notes (used to be StickyBrain?) installed, and it seems really cool.
I looked around, and it has several competitors.

Then I got concerned with "Ok, now I put everything into the Personal Database software and delete the originals (why keep two copies?), continue to use it for years, and the software craps out/company folds/alien space bats attack and now I can't get my stuff out of it again. So maybe I should just keep everything as files in the bucket, but organize with some sub-buckets, etc. (Does Leopard help? I'm still running Tiger.)

So if you know about this, and/or have used any of the following, please tell me what you can about:
SOHO Notes
Yojimbo
Bento
??? (another personal DB)
getting off my duff and making an organized file structure, labeling everything consistently, and letting Spotlight take it from there

What book writing software exists for Max OSX?

What book writing software exists for Max OSX? I want to write a book that will be likely published at Lulu. This will be a book on how to use a specific website building CMS, so it will be a typical instructional book.

I know about Scrivener and am really tempted to give it a try.

I also might just use my copy of Pages.

What else is out there?

Mac pixelated display problem

I moved my monitor and Mac to another room and now everything is pixelated. I have a PowerMac G5 and a Viewsonic vp201s running OS X Tiger, which I swear were working well last night. This morning, I noticed that all of the graphics on the desktop look pixelated. A hi-res photo of clouds I use as my desktop background has very visible artifacts and the "brushed metal" title bars on all my applications have sets of bluish/greenish pixels that make for a very artificial metal look. Videos look horrible.

I want to use the word "rasterized", but I don't know what that means. It looks like what happens when you use too much compression on a jpeg image.

I did move my computer to another room yesterday, but didn't notice anything wrong last night and I was working with some photos. The resolution settings haven't changed, nor have the color settings. I did a color configuration. Everything in the monitor's configuration looks fine.

3DsMax website plugin to zoom, spin and tag

3D-filter

I need to know if there is some sort of web plugin that can show full 3dsMax creations on the web. Spin, Zoom and Tag, more info after the link... Originally I was thinking of rendering the animation as a movie and then streaming it in Flash on the web.

However my client wants to be able to spin the 3d creation and have the ability to zoom in and possibly tag areas of the 3d image.

This needs to be embedded into a html page. I know that Nokia had something similar with their showcased phones years ago. You could rotate the phone, open cases, turn on, etc. It doesnt need to be that advanced, just zoom, rotate and possible tag.

Another problem, it needs to be easy to import from 3DsMax and foolproof.

Thanks.

Convert .max to .jpg ??????

I have about 300 pictures that were sent to me as .max files. I have since learned the .max files are Paperport's proprietary file format. There is a Paperport Viewer available for download, but I am looking for something that can convert them to .jpg. The Paperport program would be ridiculously expensive to purchase for only these files. Any Mefite's know of software that can convert these files? I've considered just doing screen captures, but that's a lot of work one pic at a time. Ideas?

Problems with Firefox & OSX. Might be my cookies!

Strange behavior on Firefox / OSX. I think it might be a problem with cookies. I use Firefox on OSX (latest versions of both). I'm seeing the following problems:

On google maps, none of my searches are working. If I follow a link to a google map, I can see it and zoom, print, etc., but if I use the search box at the top, nothing happens. It connects to google and refreshes the page, but the map doesn't change and no results are found. I've seen this problem for about a week now.

Then this happened:

I went to Ask MeFi to post this question, and I was logged out. (I never log out). I logged in and it brought me to MeFi front page. I clicked on Ask MeFi and I was logged out. I logged in a couple times and each time I was brought back to the Ask MeFi front page, not logged in.

I use Cookie Culler and have never had a problem. I cleared all of my Metafilter cookies and google map cookies and tried again, getting the same results. Everything works fine on Safari, but I want it to work in Firefox! Any thoughts?

Rebate Ripoff

Ever been screwed out of a rebate? Office Max/Brother owes me $50. Is this common? Any recourse? I bought a Brother laser printer at Office Max because there were two rebates: $20 from Office Max and $50 from Brother. Since there is only one UPC on the box I asked and was told to "make a copy" of the UPC for the Brother rebate. Got a postcard saying it was refused because I hadn't sent the original. Any ideas?
