I keep having the same wear and tear on my suit pants (and to a lesser extent, jeans and khakis) and I want to know what is causing it and how to make it stop. In almost every pair the crotch begins to go quickly, tearing apart, piling, fraying, and being worn straight through with little holes. it's like I'm doing splits or high kicks all day. These occur across types of pants, tailored and not, stuff I swear frequently and stuff I hardly ever wear. As far as I know I'm buying the right size and try to wear them at my natural waist, just below the belly button and frequently with belts. I'm a guy with a bit of a gut and I don't go for marathon runs in my suit pants. For outfits I wear a lot I rotate the pants but within a year they're ruined and torn up. Is it the material? Am I sitting wrong? Hanging them wrong? Is there something I should be looking or/asking the tailor about? [more inside]

I'm looking for fabric to make a skirt or dress. I want a large format landscape printed parallel to the selvage, like this
, not a repeating print across the fabric like this
. Can you help me find one? Know of any fabric stores with this kind of stock? Google-fu has let me down.

What kind of table do I want and where can I get it? We've been unhappy with our dining table for some time now, it's too big (tall), it scratches easy, and seems to require near constant care because it's also serving as two people's work table. I'm looking for a small informal table that can work easily as a dining table and a work desk. Is there a name for the kind of table I want and where can I find it in the NYC area. Details follow. My under cabinet lights are so hot they're heating up my cabinet shelves. Since I don't want to remove the lights, or drink from hot glasses, what liner or material can I use beneath my dishware and canned food to keep them from getting hot?

I'm sick to death of all the junk I've accumulated and would love to purge, but feel emotionally attached to my stuff. Please tell me some pros, cons and experiences involving donating (selling?) your worldly goods. Personal accounts of post-purge regret or enlightenment equally welcome. [more inside]

Where can I find 2mm-4mm neoprene in the Chicago area (preferably the northern suburbs)? I'm looking for the stuff that is fabric coated on both sides. I can find it all over the place online, but I'm not having any luck with local suppliers. I'd like to buy locally because I'm in a bit of a time crunch and I'd like to make sure I'm getting what I need. [more inside]

What is the difference between card stock and construction paper?
Any web searches reveal that they're of similar weight/size and are used in standard art projects, but being from non-US, they're not specific enough for me to understand what it is.
Where I live, it's all "cardboard" to us =\

Can anyone tell me where to research/find bulk viscoelastic rubber, or molded rubber that has viscoelastic properties? I'm looking for a material that when stretched, takes its sweet time in returning to its original size/shape. Turns out there are no rubber stores in my area to browse, thus no experts to turn to. Most info I've found online is scientific discussions about rubber properties.

Inexpensive or reasonably priced fabric (dressmakers) available online (retail). Either within Australia (or ships here - without costing a fortune!).
I'm after a bit of (cotton) broderie anglaise, lycra, some cotton drill and a rayon/cotton/stretch blend to be precise but.. whatever you've got - I'll take it!

I like non-fiction, true life stories (i.e., about slavery, mafias in different American towns, Irish potato famine, dustbowl accounts.... should be an easy read since I'll be on planes and in airports. Thanks!

What does the term "Chicago brick" mean? I Googled and found plenty of references, but no definition. I have heard that it refers to houses done in multi-colored brick, but it may also refer to a certain type of brick. Interested in photos, any info about derivation of the term. Thanks!
