Three years ago the Bush Administration allowed the importation of Indian mangoes for the first time in 30 years. It's mango season right now. Where can I get an alphonso mango in the USA?

I Can Has Spicy Hot Mango Candy Pleez?

Where can I find spicy hot mango Mexican candy online? My coworker recently came back from Isla Mujeres, Mexico, and brought back a bag of tasty candy -- each individually-wrapped treat was mango-flavored, chewy, and hot. I ate it all, and besides being remorseful I'm also craving more. I Googled the name on the candy wrapper (which I forgot to write down) and came up with nothing. Anyone know where I might find such delicious treats online?

A bucket of mangoes

Help me make the best mango lassi in the world. I've just discovered a trove of the most flavorful mangoes imaginable at my local veggie mart, and coincidentally am invited to a dinner of Indian food this weekend. I want to whip up a pitcher of the ultimate mango lassis, but the one other time I tried this I failed miserably. Please help me with some tried and true lassi recipes!

My head is empy of mangoes. Am I still gonna be a genius anyway?

I ate a piece of mango, and now my throat is terribly sore. What happened? This has never happened to me before. Typically, I enjoy mangoes quite a bit, and eat them with impunity.

Yesterday evening, a friend of mine offered me a slice of "fresh" mango from a plastic container of mango slices that he had purchased the previous day. I say "fresh" as opposed to dry; indeed, they were a bit limp, and may well have been past their sell-by date.

In any case, while chewing on the mango slice, it tasted delicious. However, right after I swallowed it, I got this *horrible* vile aftertaste. It gave me this terrible burning sensation in the back of my throat.

My friend who gave me the mango slice mentioned that he felt a similar sensation in his throat, only not as strongly as I did. He also said that the slices made him nauseous. They hadn't made me nauseous, although I only had one slice and he had several.

Anyway, the burning sensation chilled out a little bit after the initial onset, but when I woke up this morning, my throat was still all scratchy and burny.

Any idea what happened?

I know that mango peels contain amounts of urushiol, and I am highly allergic to poison ivy. However, I have never had a problem with mangoes before. In fact, I kinda love them, typically.

Does this mean that I can't eat mangoes anymore?

I need some great mango recipes. I have developed this recent mango obsession and can't get enough of the fruit. I bought a mango cookbook called Mango, but it was limited.
Mango Vanilla Mojito recipe anyone?

Does anyone have a recipe for a Mango Vanilla Mojito? I had a great cocktail at E&O Trading Company. It was a mango vanilla mojito. It must have been a special or it's now gone because I don't see it on their menu.

I'd love to be able to recreate it. I've found some mango mojito recipes, but I'm hoping someone here knows exactly what I'm looking for.

Help me Obi-Wan Bartender. You're my only hope.

Where can I buy mango juice?

Where can I buy mango juice (fresh, concentrate or otherwise) in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area? I've checked all the usual sources (Kowalskis, Whole Foods, Lunds, Byerlys) but they only seem to carry mango juice in mixes with other juices.

How hot, hot shot?

How hot do I set the oven for drying mangos and for how long? I just sliced up a few fresh mangos and put them in the fridge so I could (hopefully) dry them tomorrow in my oven. However, I'm afraid my oven might run too hot, even at its lowest setting—about 75-85 C. Is this much too hot? Will I only spoil the fruit if I try?

Also, how long should I leave them in for, assuming the oven isn't too hot? And for the sake of those with better-running ovens, what are the optimal temperatures and times for drying mangos?

Help me grow mangos from seeds

From the Black Thumb Dept.: I've been trying for the past few years to grow mango plants from seeds and failing. [more dead plant shenanigans inside] The usual course of events goes something like this: After I eat a particularly ripe mango, I crack open the husk of the pit and remove the seed. I plant it in a "Seed Starter" mixture (I think it's mostly peat with a little vermiculite and some fertilizer.) The seed happily sprouts and grows into a shoot about six inches tall with three to five leaves. Then after a month or so, the leaves start to slowly turn brown & wither, starting at the tips and working their way inwards. This eventually happens to all the leaves (over the course of a few months), and the plant dies.

What am I doing wrong? Not enough light? (Probably not too much light, since it's not near a window.) Too much water? Not enough? Too much fertilizer? Not enough? Or are mangoes just hard to grow?
