Looking for podcasts or radio shows with women talking in Mancunian accents or similar Northern English accents. I love Manchester accents and want to listen to more of them. I used to watch 'Frasier' only to hear Jane Leeves speak, and also loved the accent used by the character Betty Slocombe in 'Are You Being Served'.

Podcasts, audiobooks, or any other aural media I can take with me and listen to are wanted. Thanks a bunch.

Looking to take my fiancee to a pottery class and some glass-blowing in/near Manchester UK - any recommendations? Does anyone have any suggestions? Attempts on google has come up with paint-your-own-pottery but I'm looking for a place that lets you start right at the beginning with clay and a potters wheel.

Additionally, I would love to take my fiancee glass-blowing but google-fu has failed me.

My fiancee is very much into putting her own creative touches to household items so any help would make her day!

Seeing a good place for a large-ish group (a dozen or so adults) to eat in Manchester, NH within winter walking distance of the Radisson/NH Expo Center (700 Elm St). The Merrimack (where we have normally gone) has closed and I don't want to be stuck going to Margaritas. We're a boisterous group of about 6-7 couples, plus a few kids. Not big drinkers. Good food and plenty of it is a must. Diners are fine. Would prefer something that is not a national chain.

Watching an NFL game in Manchester

I'll be in Manchester, UK, during next weekend's Pats/Steelers game. It's a 4:15 EST kickoff, which means 9:15 GMT. So, can anyone recommend a sports bar/pub in Manchester likely to be showing the game? I may not be able to stay for all of it, but wouldn't mind catching the beginning. FYI, I'm staying in Didsbury, which is kind of out from the center of the city, I think. Oh, and I'm a woman on my own, so nothing too rough and tumble.

Please help me find a Manchester Terrier! I am looking for a Standard Manchester Terrier puppy and I am finding it unusually difficult to find a reputable breeder with available puppies or a planned litter. Granted, the breed is relatively uncommon. But I have spent countless time and energy researching breeders. And I am getting nowhere fast. I am not looking for links to breeders' websites or links to shelter dogs' profiles, please. So save the energy. I have visited them all. But does anyone actually know a reputable breeder with pups or know of a shelter who has a young Manchester? Can you provide me with information that I likely wouldn't have come across in my endless online research? I have been very patient and will continue to be patient. But if you know something that I don't, please help!

Where can I take a musically-obsessed American friend around Manchester and London? An American friend of mine is coming to stay with me in Manchester next week, and has expressed a profound interest in all things Mancunian and music, such as Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, The Smiths, electro music, goth music, etc.

Alas, the only things I can think of to show her are the Salford Lads Club and what’s left of the Hacienda. Do you have any better suggestions ?!

Where to view the Leonid meteor shower near Manchester, UK?

I want to watch the Leonid Meteor shower (November 17/18) near Manchester, England. I'm trying to get out of the city to avoid light pollution, preferably not to the south so that the glow of Manchester won't dominate the sky as I look north. Since I'll have access to a car, anywhere within a few hours of the city would be fine.

I'm looking for:
1. a quiet place
2. nice atmosphere
3. plenty of space to lie down
4. free
5. legal

Bonus points if it's in an area in which there's something to do in the evening beforehand.

Explain this bar-room incident So I'm in this bar, in Manchester UK, about a year ago. I take a trip to the men's room, where I find two guys in their mid-twenties outside the door, as if they're waiting for their turn. One of them gives me a little nod to go inside and, being in somewhat of a hurry --- they make excellent ale in Manchester --- I go ahead. As I am proceeding with the business at hand, I notice a tight roll of bills, about the size of a cigarette, sitting on the water tank. I'm a little uncertain, but I think the outermost bill was a 20.

I can hear the two men standing outside haven't left, so I decide there's something fishy in this and just leave the money sitting there. As I walk out the door, the guy that nodded to me before walks in.

I'm guessing there was some transaction between the two, and they didn't want to just hand the money over, but what was the point of having me look at their cash for a minute and a half?

Have you any personal recommendations for gay nightlife—particularly on a Thursday night—in Manchester, England? There are numerous clubs, pubs, and party nights abound, particularly in the gay village area, but I'm looking for particular favorites for a gay male traveler (40ish) visiting on a Thursday night who enjoys a good booty-shaking evening of dance and drink. (Favorite club nights in London, as an example, include G-A-Y at the Astoria.) What say you?

Flying from Manchester to Gothenburg

Are there any flights from Manchester to Gothenburg? Or, failing that, from anywhere in the north of England to anywhere in the south of Sweden? I've looked and looked, but I can't find anything. I can't afford hundreds and hundreds of pounds, so a budget carrier or a cheap fare from a national airline is all I can really look at.

So does this exist? And is there any easy, one-stop kind of way to find this kind of thing out, for future reference?

i'm going to northwest england for new years. where's the vegan food! am i going to freeze? i'm flying into manchester (from chicago) on 27 december. i'll be staying with a friend in bolton, though we'll probably be driving around salford quite a bit. we'll be in liverpool on the 30th to watch everton and we have to be in sheffield on new year's to watch the sheffield wednesday match. (it's the whole point of my trip.)

my biggest worry is that i will starve or be an oboxious burden because i'm vegan. my friend is decidedly not vegan. i think i'll be ok when i'm at his place because we'll go shopping, but what about eating out? are there any good vegan friendly places in manchester, liverpool, sheffield, salford and bolton? this will be my first time up in the north.

my second biggest worry is that i, being from the bay area, will freeze because i don't have proper winter clothes. i have a lined jacket and hoodie, as well as a scarf and hat. should this be enough to brave manchester in late december?

I'm looking for a track that has a sort of "track day", or race what you brung type deal... not any track though, it must be a circuit track, not drag... and also, the closer to Manchester CT, the better... i've looked around, and found Lime Rock Park, but they have been quite rude and have not answered any of my email's... i also contacted a track in Stafford, and they said "we only let real race cars on our track" so figuring this out is proving to be quite difficult... all i want in reality is a place to take my car, and wind around some turns, to see just what it, and me are made of.

My wife and I need to fly from Newark, NJ to Manchester, England next Monday for her uncle's funeral, returning the following Monday. Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap fares (non-stop would be preferable since I use a scooter and my wife is visually impaired)? I checked with several airlines and bereavement fares do not apply for uncles (also, bereavement fares aren't necessarily a good deal anyway).

The cheapest fare I've been able to find is from airfare.com (via SideStep). I tried googling (including googlegroups) for information about airfare.com and found very little information. I'm leery about using a site that doesn't seem very well known. Anyone have any experience with this site?
