Security Reporting Management System? Guard Patrol Administration?

I've been tasked with creating (well, refactoring and redesigning) a web app for managing a security company. It includes call logs, encounter reports, regions, locations, duties (patrols), various kinds of bulletins, and other things. If I were to search for existing software that covers the same purpose, what would I search for? What is this kind of thing called? [more inside]

CMS VS POD

Content Management Systems allow users to manage/publish web content. A Print on Demand system allows users manage/publish print content. I need a single system that does both. [more inside]

Membership Management and Joomla Community Builder

I've been asked to investigate Joomla Community Builder for use by a community circus I'm a part of to manage their membership. Based on their needs and abilities, is it worth using, or are we better off with other less complicated solutions? [more inside]

Do Content Management Systems really work?

I work for a company of about 100 people whose product is information, but it manages information in a really crappy manner. Nobody knows what's going on elsewhere within the company; often crucial people are unaware of events staged by other departments. We are thinking of getting a CMS to fix this: [more inside]

How can I manage my paper documents using my computer?

Document management. I get a lot of paper documents (bills, letters, invoices, etc) and want to catalog them digitally. I want a program that scans a sheet (or multiple sheets), turns them into PDF and catalogs them (title, category, and maybe even del.icio.us style tags). Acrobat will do the first two stages, but I want something that does the cataloging too. Any suggestions? OCR not needed whatsoever.

CMS

CMSfilter: I am setting up a site for a friend's performance group. The key dynamic features will be a gig schedule and a photo gallery; other than that, I expect it'll be mostly static content. I'm looking for a CMS where the appearance is easy to customize and where non-technical people will be able to update the content easily without bugging me. I'm already famililar with opensourcecms.com, etc--I'm wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations. Roll-my-own is not an option.
