An unusually good-looking male MA graduate classmate and I friended each other in RL + FB b/c we're in the same graduate class over the next year. We've worked on projects together, and have quite a bit in common. In the beginning - there was definitely attraction going on (esp for him). I felt he was very attracted to me b/c of my life experience, or that I don't pander to him like his younger female friends. He's also 22, I'm 38. In recent weeks, I've felt the age difference and his immaturity in certain issues show up, which I thought would be a good deterrent. The good news is I do not want to date him, nor do I see anything long-term if anything was to happen. But I'm struggling b/c I fear really hurting his feelings... yet I see him every week at school, so I don't know how to take him off? [more inside]

This question is spurred by the recent NYT article on male book clubs. I'm interested in starting one of my own, but without the idiotic grenade manliness rankings and all male authors. What I'm really interested in is creating a safe space for a group of people to talk about the emotional sides of masculinity, and largely the difficulty many men have in expressing emotions and vulnerability. I'm looking for potential books(both fiction and non-fiction) that would help foster these discussions.
I'm looking for a more appropriate word than "non male" that is more inclusive than "female." [more inside]
Men with medium (ear to chin) length hair - how do you get your locks looking so luxurious? Basically, how do you go from this to this?
I am a straight BHM, but find it very hard to accept the supposed fact that there are hetero/bi women out there that could consider me attractive. I would appreciate links to anything that helps straight BHMs feel sexually appreciated: movie/television quotes, op-eds or writings, or pretty much anything you can think of. [more inside]
Im a 40yo Male and I just had some blood work done and although my Testosterone levels are withing the normal range, they are on the low side said my doctor. He prescribed androgel. Ive read all over the interwebs about a possibility of hair loss. Well this makes me very scared to take it. I have no signs of male pattern baldness and im quite attached to having hair as opposed to being bald. Can anyone chime in with personal experience/advice/etc....? Im on the fence here and would like some feedback. Thx!
I hate the feeling of the hot summer sun on my skin. What type of hat should I get to keep the sun off of me? I am an early 30s male living in Philadelphia. My style is pretty casual and I likely being wearing jeans and a t-shirt in the situations where I would wear this hypothetical hat I don't need to look cool in the hat, but I'd strongly prefer to not look goofy in it. I'd prefer to spend less than $100 but I am flexible on that.
I am an early 30's dude who was invited to a friend's wedding. It's in two days. I don't have much experience with weddings, and don't have anything to wear yet. I don't have much money, and don't have a suit of my own. Can you give me suggestions on what to wear so that I don't stick out like a sore thumb? [more inside]

I've seen lots of TV shows where someone will get a guy up to speed with grooming, help him come up with a "style", take him to the right cosmetics people, hair stylist, etc. I want this overall service too. Do these sorts of people exist in real life, what are they called, and can I find one here in the UK? [more inside]

It has taken me two years to get over my ex-boyfriend, and now, in graduate school, I finally, finally met a guy classmate whom I think could be great boyfriend material. He is kind, sweet, super intelligent, and not to mention pretty good-looking. We've spent a bit of time together on projects and study together occasionally, and over the past few months I've really developed some feelings for this guy. The trouble is, I am quite shy and not very good at flirting, so I've tried to initiate contact by organizing study get-togethers, asking him questions on Facebook, etc. I don't want to seem clingy or weird by initiating all this contact though. As for me, people have said I'm pretty, kind, intelligent, blah blah blah. I'm at a point in my life where I would like to find the right man for me and settle down, and I think this guy could be it. Unlike my previous relationships in which we met online, with this guy, I've developed a friendship and my feelings have grown from what I've gleaned from his character and interactions with his family and friends. I really like him, and I don't want to let this one go. Do you have any advice for how to maybe hint to this guy that I like him?

In my old job (a small creative outfit), I used to wear what is known as "sport-chic attire", which pretty much means a nice shirt and high-end jeans. It was all about having a shirt for every day of the week with 2 or 3 pants and 2 or 3 pairs of shoes. Now that I'm changing jobs, should I change my dress code as well? [more inside]

Hello, I have a stem-cell related question which I hope someone familiar with said information can help me out with. Basically, I was wondering if it's theoretically possible to grow a brand new male reproductive organ within an existing male organ as its eventual replacement with the aid of stem cells (i.e. via stem cell injection into the organ tissue). The cells could then differentiate into specialized organ cells which could then divide, etc. What are your fact-based opinions about this?
For a bunch of reasons (some good, some bad) I have the next two and half months totally free. I don't have to do a thing, I have no reason to make any more money and I've got oceans of time, a nest egg of savings, and a gym membership. Previous times like this I've focused on making my skill-set or apartment better/fancier, but now I want to focus on myself. No creative projects, no learning and growing, just pure, unabashed vanity. What can I do in two and half months to get all kinds of pretty? Ideally during the day. [more inside]
So, I need to start building a decent work-ready wardrobe and I wanted to try going the thrift second hand route. I'm a 35 year old male with pretty sedate tastes in clothing that skew in the heritage and ivy league directions. Any places in DFW I should look? thanks
I've been cutting my hair very short, and discovered that while I didn't mind my graying hair when it was a normal length, it is much grayer-looking when cut this close and does not look good in combination with my untanned white scalp. Can someone point out good hair color products for white guys with extremely short hair? [more inside]
I'm about to ask a—perhaps sexist—question about the possible differences in how men and women—broadly speaking—identify with songs in marketing. But first, some set-up. As a branding exercise, I've been working on tackling a fictitious start-up consisting of two fashion retailer brands. One's a men's brand, and one's a women's brand, both part of the same fictitious umbrella corporation. When fleshing out the details of any brand, I like to immerse myself in the environment of that brand as much as possible, approaching it almost like a method actor approaches a role. Part of this process for me is usually creating a playlist of music I identify as feeling right for that brand. Songs I can imagine playing in the store itself. I noticed my thought process behind selecting tracks for the menswear and womenswear brands were entirely different, and I'm wondering if there's any underlying truth or data to support my intuitions. I honestly don't know this, and almost none of the men that I know are circumcized, so I wouldn't know who to ask in person. Is it generally so that lube is more needed/vital/ important/whathaveyou for masturbation if one is a male who is circumcized? [more inside]
Is there a classification of (HR-speak) discrimination when a male employee defers to female coworkers chivalrously (e.g. holding doors open)? Because the activity is solely based on gender, it seems like this would be the case, but it is not addressed as an example in our policies. (Title is Dad-quote from the 70's.)

Recently I went on a trip with my kid sister and each time, the pilots were men and the flight attendants were women and even while we were waiting to board, we watched the pilots and flight attendants for other airlines walk to their gates and it was always the same and she was curious and disgruntled about this, so I thought I would ask the hive mind. Are there institutional/systemic/socioeconomic reasons why the pilot/flight attendant makeup isn't proportionate to the population they serve?

A few years ago I attended a talk on women's wellness in which the speaker referred to the idea that in our male-dominated society, work quality/style is considered superior when the work is cranked out regularly (in the way that men produce sperm all day long), whereas a feminine perspective would be more cyclical (as in the menstrual cycle), with production of work involving periods of contemplation/incubation and rest and less volume of production. Does anyone know the origin or source for this concept? I don't think it was the speaker's original idea. [more inside]
What should I do with my hair? White, male, 32. Hair is dirty blonde and wavy but not quite curly. I've never had good luck getting it cut, so I've always gone back and forth between shaving bald and just letting it grow. It's been growing for most of the year and looks like a fro, with the back almost to the shoulder. That was great in my 20's but I'd like something more professional and consistent. As is, it's all messed up and lopsided by lunchtime. [more inside]
