Is there a way I can upload old emails into my Yahoo account? I was previously using Thunderbird as my client but now want to exclusively use Yahoo webmail, and would like to have my 'Sent' mail and the contents of a couple of other email folders that I've downloaded locally to be available online. I have an idea for yet another hairbrained social networking website (which paradoxically might hit it big :-) ). I've coded most of it up on a linux server using apache, php, mysql at softlayer.com. The hostname is registered at godaddy (which I can change if desirable). What's the minimum I need to do the following (I'd rather work on the website application logic and learn as little as possible about mail server administration for now): [more inside]

I manage a small network of users, and currently we are using Google Apps for our domain, and getting mail via POP. I'd very much like to fake IMAP access to Google by creating an intermediary/shadow account (either on our web host, or on our local Apple XServe running OS X 10.4 Server) and configuring it like so: 1. Set Google address to forward automatically to shadow account. 2. Set desktops to check mail through shadow account, but send email through Google's SMTP servers, to keep conversations in tact. I have a Linux box (Ubuntu Edgy) that I would like to be able to send mail to an Exchange server. It also needs to send/receive locally. Which MTA will actually allow me to do this and are directions for configuring it available? I've found lots of vague references but very little "program X will do this and here's how" kind of stuff.

UW IMAP stores inboxes in /var/spool/mail/[username]. When I delete mail from my inbox (using Apple Mail), a copy of the message is left behind in that file, and it gets huge, even though it appears to have actually been removed from my inbox. Is there any way to prevent this happening, or at least to compact it?

Email forwarding problem within the domain: Trying to fix my boss's email account. He checks his email using Netscape 7.2 on a Win98 PC. (We can't convince him to upgrade). He can send mail and reply to mail fine. He can forward mail fine, except when it is to one of use within the same domain name. It appears to send successfully but never shows up. I've tried looking through the email headers but nothing sticks out and I don't relaly know what to look for. Was wondering if this situation rings a bell for anyone?

Spam-a-lot: Are there spam filters that can reject phony "Mail returned" virus e-mails by comparing the "failed" address to what you've actually sent? Such hoaxes are dominating my daily spam quotient, despite my use of spam-blocker Razor. But it seems like these would be easy enough for a program to detect.

gmail: i've been using it for a few weeks now and have made it my primary e-mail repository. The only thing it lacks for me, though, is the ability to be notified (on the Windows desktop) when new mail comes in. Anyone aware of software to handle this task?
