I am receiving unsolicited magazine subscriptions along with billing statements. I have called the magazine offices to cancel the subscriptions. I am being told they have the subscription request card from me with my signature. I have requested copies of these cards from the magazine companies to see if I can discern who is responsible.
Sending them to me was ok but now they have added my wife to the game and I am no longer amused. If by chance I am able to identify the culprit, would anyone know if there is a legal recourse I could pursue to encourage them to stop?

I want to learn more about how Tyler Brulé got Wallpaper and then Monocle going. I read the great dialog on City of Sound about the design of Monocle online. But I am really interested in Brulé's move into publishing business and being a hands-on editor and taste-maker. Are there books, documentaries, or interview with him or his conspirators that explain how he made it in business? I am especially interested in the pivotal first year of Wallpaper and the first year after Time Warner bought him out.

I read an article in a women's magazine quite a few years ago where the singer kd Lang was being interviewed. In the article she mentions a state of mind where you embrace change (in general) and look for new experiences ... or something close to that. Not sure I have it completely right. I have searched the entire Internet, it seems, and can't find any reference. [more inside]

When do you get your copy of the New Yorker, the New York Review of Books or the Atlantic?
I'm considering subscribing to the print edition of one or more of these magazines, however, for my own reasons, my decision will be affected by when the magazines will hit my mailbox. [more inside]

A number of years ago I saw a photograph in an art magazine of a work by an artist I'm having trouble remembering. The photograph was of an ethereal and calm beach scene, with an endless blue/green sea and a washed out horizon, and tiny plastic figures placed throughout the water and beach at various positions, so that from our perspective these figures looked human and real. Any idea how I can find this image or artist?

My friend recently moved to Portland, OR to go to grad school. I've sent her some guide books for the area, but I'd also like to give her a subscription to a weekly events-type magazine. I'm in NYC and I get a lot out of reading Time Out: New York -- listings of restaurants to try, shows to see, bands playing, etc. I don't think Time Out prints a Portland version, so I'm looking for suggestions from the masses here. Is there something similar to (or even better than!) Time Out:NY for Portland? Thanks!!

I am looking for a magazine that would be interested in a story I've written about being in love without sexual attraction. Nerve is the only magazine that I can think of, but from the looks of things, I doubt they accept anything from writers outside of sunny California.
My story isn't sexual explicit, but I don't think a mainstream/family-friendly publication would be interested in this.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a Nerve-esque magazine (or zine) that accepts non-fiction that isn't supposed to make you horny?

"We need to use that picture of that pregnant singer from the cover of Mary Claire in the next show," says my boss. "What's my budget," I ask? There's a pause. My budget is nothing. "Can't you just get permission? As a promotion?" I make a note. "When do we need it by?" "Yesterday. As long as you get me the release by Friday, we're good." Yes, this is my job.
Anyone have tips on successfully licensing photos of celebrities... for as little money and hassle as possible? [more inside]

I recently purchased several boxes of magazines at a garage sale, including copies of a German magazine called "Lisa." It's a typical "woman's magazine" (i.e. fashion, celebrity news, recipes, human interest stories). It's been fun to peruse through it since we don't get much exposure to "foreign" stuff here in the sticks, and one of the recipes caught my eye: Luftige Joghurt-Aprikosen-Torte. [more inside]

We (my ESL company in Beijing) are looking for a cross-platform (the person in charge of editing is using a mac, which...I...never...NO! and thus stems our problem), open-source, multi-lingual publishing software to support an in-house magazine we're trying to get started. It's gotta be something similar to InDesign, but it also has to be something we can train staff on who aren't, y'know, proficient in English. Any ideas? [more inside]

Anyone know of a digg/reddit/mefi type of site that tracks entended magazine-type pieces like you might find in the nyt magazine or the new yorker? I really enjoy reading extended length, in-depth kinds of articles through the course of a day as opposed to surfing many smaller links or articles. Some kind of categorizing would be nice, also. Ideas?
