I have a folder of about two thousand .png files. For each file, I need to (1)create a new folder named the same as the currently selected file(minus the extension), and (2)move the file into its eponymous folder. How can I accomplish this using Applescript?

I have a strong memory that there's an OS X command-line tool that can dump to the terminal a running log of all disk accesses, including which executable is reading or writing. It was very handy in figuring out what the Mac was doing when the disk was busy but the load was low. Does anyone remember what this was?

I had a problem recently with my school's network shutting down my dormitory Ethernet port because of some suspicious activity originating from my computer, a MacBook Pro. It occurred when I was not at my computer at all (and it was in a location secure from any other in-person manipulation). I vaguely recall that there exists a program on Mac OS X that records, and asks for confirmation for, every application that tries to send data out over the Internet. Anyone ever see such a thing?

I typically use Safari, and have my preferences set to store all of my passwords and user names in my Keychain.app. However when it starts acting up and giving me the spinning beach ball, I use Camino (v. 1.0.3.) When I try to log in to a website, it asks me for my user name and password - do I really have to fill in ALL those passwords and user names all over again? In other words, is there any way I can get Camino to access the passwords I saved using Safari?

I need to restore a Mac OS X hard drive. My target volume is 300GB. My source volume is a sparse image from a 500GB drive with only 179GB used, but of course, Disk Utility is looking at the total space on the volumes, not the used space. Is there any way to force this operation, modify the volume size of the sparse image, or do this in any way that will be less painful than reinstalling all my apps and settings from scratch?
