In the last few weeks, blue stains have shown up on my daughter's shirts after washing them. They weren't there before I washed the clothes. They don't show up on anyone else's clothes. I can't get them out. Any ideas about how to get the stains out and how to prevent other shirts from getting stained? [more inside]

My dad built a proper pedestal for our new washing machine and dryer. It is 19 inches high. The challenge is getting the washer up onto the pedestal. The washer weighs 232 lbs. It is just the two of us today. I don't want to throw my back out. Neither does he. What equipment or physics tricks can we employ to get this thing up on the pedestal?

I have cotton napkins, some 100 percent, some 65 percent. And it says on the label to wash them in cold.
I want to make sure that when my child puts the napkin to her mouth that the napkin is sanitary. But I'm wondering if washing them in cold takes all the microbes out. I'm not only talking about the food, but what about my wash machine which may have just washed our family underpants. Is this common practice? Or am I missing something? Am I supposed to be washing the napkins in a bucket instead?
I wanted the convenience of washing in the washing machine, but if that is not sanitary I will do the bucket. Also, if I can do it in the machine, should I do it in warm to make sure microbes are gone? Or is cold best? Also, should I line dry or do it in the dryer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I am looking for a clothes washing machine to fit into a relatively small apartment's bathroom. The bathroom was not originally intended for the installation of a washing machine, though there is just barely sufficient space, so I'm looking for something that is sort of tall and narrow, or shallower than normal in dimensions, not cube shaped like the typical front loading machine. Moving house: our new appartment comes with its own refrigerator and washing machine. We can store our own fridge and washing machine in a shed in my mothers yard. How can I best protect the machines against moist conditions and subzero (Celcius) temperatures in winter?

My front-loading washing machine smells bad, and makes my clothes smell bad. It smells mildew-y or like a sour dishcloth, and has imparted sour dishcloth smell to my favorite black (i.e., can't be bleached) pants. [more inside]

Does anyone know details of the Energy Star rebate in the Stimulus bill? I was going to buy a new washing machine today, but I'm wondering if my purchase would count if the bill isn't signed yet. And knowing how much the rebate would be may make a difference in the model I pick.
