My laptop, a 11-inch Macbook Air, is becoming elderly and I need to replace it. Can I just forego the laptop and get an iPad Pro instead? Details inside. [more inside]
I have a late-2010 model Macbook Air that I'd like to sell. It's in good condition. What is the easiest, most reliable way for me to sell it, avoid scammers, and just get money in my pocket as painlessly as possible? Thanks!
My wife's beloved 2014 MacBook Air (11") is starting to die. While we love Apple hardware, 99.99% of her time is spent in Windows (through Boot Camp). What would be a good replacement for this laptop? [more inside]
We have a Macbook Air running Sierra 10.12, upgraded within the last 10 weeks or so. Since then we can't keep free space on the hard drive. It just continually disappears, to the point where the drive is almost full and the computer stops functioning properly. I can't find the source of the problem, except that the space used by "System" files is just growing and growing -- today it's at 150GB! Are there any serious Mac experts out there who can help me? My daughter took a songwriting class at school this year and they used Logic. Her laptop is a Macbook Air. Is there something similar or is compatible we can get for her Mac? She wants to make mostly dance type music. Is it worth getting a keyboard to go with the laptop? And do we want to think about getting something that she can record with? (she also has an acoustic guitar.) Any advice for the budding electronic musician would be appreciated!
I have an original MacBook Air 1,1 (2008) that we use as our old-but-still-serviceable travel computer. It currently has 10.6.8 on it, and my understanding is that the machine could support Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion). Any upside (or serious downside) to upgrading it to 10.7.5? [more inside]
I'm leaving a job that provided me with a new-ish MacBook Air, and I need to replace it. I'm torn: Macbook, Air, Pro, retina, non-retina, desktop Mac, etc. My entire digital life - home and work -is with Apple, so I am not interested in PCs. Help me overthink a plate of pretty, functional, slightly-overpriced beans. [more inside]
I have a mid-2013 Macbook Air with 4GB of RAM. It's currently running Mavericks, and I would love to just keep it that way, but more and more software doesn't work with Mavericks. I would update, but I hear so many people who say that 4GB isn't enough and you need at least 8GB to run both Yosemite and El Capitan well and that performance is worse than on Mavericks. Why can't I find a nice, inexpensive sleeve (neoprene, felt, whatever) for my Macbook Air 13" laptop? I want a snug sleeve, not one that will fit any old 13" laptop. The Air is very thin, and it will swim in a sleeve meant for a 13" Macbook Pro. The local Mac Store was no help, nor was eBay, Etsy or Amazon. Unfortunately, I haven't found any to look at where I live either. My ideal price is under $30. Does anyone know of a sleeve that will really fit the 13" Air?
We are buying a MacBook Air for our A+++ student. Is there anything to know besides the $100 student discount? Are there ever any sales prices tied to holiday buying? Is the AppleCare Protection plan worth it? [more inside]

Looking for a hub or docking station that will connect a 2015 MacBook Air to one, or ideally, two external monitors with VGA ports (I can't buy newer monitors), and enough USB ports for my mouse, phone charger, and hard drive. The hub will be stationary on my office desk, and I'd like to be able to get into work everyday and connect it to my laptop with a single connection, either USB or Thunderbolt, without fussing with cables. Would prefer something that's not too bulky. My budget is around $50 for the hub and all necessary adapters, but can go up to $100.
Yesterday my mid-2012 MacBook Air got the dreaded flashing question mark and "drive not found" text upon startup. Fortunately, I had a Time Machine backup, and I was able to get the computer running (for now - knock on wood). When I was researching the problem, I noticed that this generation of MacBook Air has issues with its SSD, and Apple will replace the drive at no charge within three years of purchase. To diagnose the issue, Apple's website says, you must install the "Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1" from the App Store. Problem is, that update isn't there anymore... [more inside]

Is there an equivalent to Can You Run It for Macs? I'm tired of never knowing ahead of time what games will run well (enough) on my MacBook Air, especially since I'm partial to graphics-heavy stuff like BioShock and Half-Life. If it helps, here are my details: Mid 2011 MacBook Air Processor: 1.8 Ghz Intel Core i7 Memory: 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
What it says on the tin: I'm starting a professional Master's program in computer science this summer. I've decided to get a new laptop, since right now I have a 5-year-old Macbook that I do no serious work on, due to the oldness and slowness (and small screen). [more inside]
My vintage 2008 Macbook is eagerly gazing at the pasture that has been beckoning it for a few years now. I have replaced the hard-drive and maxed out the RAM, but the poor little guy is simply ready for a well-deserved rest. So - what's next for me and when? Macbook Pro? Air? iMac? iPad? Difficulty level: incorporating moderate music production, Netflix, general web use, somewhat limited funds, and massive over-thinking. [more inside]

I have a late 2010 13" Macbook Air with 2 gb of RAM with OSX 9 (Mavericks) installed that's really showing its age. I'd like to keep it going for another year or so, and I'm interested in strategies to do this. Upgrade, downgrade, leave things alone? [more inside]

Should I get a 13" Macbook Air or a 14" Lenovo X1 Carbon? [more inside]
I'm in grad school. My friend/classmate accidentally knocked over her water bottle on Wednesday and drenched my MacBook Air (which was on the classroom table about three feet away), killing at least the motherboard (per the repair shop where I took it) and possibly other things as well. It will cost at least $520 to repair; I'm out of AppleCare coverage because I got my computer a bit over a year ago. I have two questions. [more inside]
Needing to get a new portable, because the battery in my workhorse laptop is borked, I ordered a refurbished 13" MacBook Pro - which I am typing on at the moment. So far, it seems fine for what I need, but I was wondering whether the hive mind could think of a better solution. Generic snowflake detail inside. [more inside]
This is for live sound at a party. I need to add a delay to a set of speakers to synchronize them with the main stacks. I don't have a digital console or an effects box capable of this. Could I use something like Audiomulch to do it? How would I set up my 13" MacBook Air so it won't shut don't or cut the audio for several hours? [more inside]
What I want to do is get a Macbook Air, partition one of my externals for Windows and at least 1 Linux distro so that I can play with all three systems. However, my only concern is that I'm not forseeing some possible issues with getting a mostly basic level 13 in Air. Before you ask, I don't want a Pro since my current laptop is a beast, portability really is a concern for me for several months out of the year, and I want to experience the opposite end of the weight and ready-to-go spectrum. I want to buy a new Mac to replace my 2008 Macbook, but I'm overwhelmed by the options. What will best fit my needs? [more inside]
My early-2007 Macbook Pro is still going strong, besides the fact that it gets very hot and that the battery is kaput. The biggest problem I have with it is that the OS (v.10.5.8) is far enough out of date that I can't update most of my software, and have a hard time acquiring new software. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to the latest version of OS X, or would I be better of just springing for a new mac? [more inside]
Hi MeFi! This is My First Ask, so my apologies in advance if I do something incorrectly. My MacBook Air that I purchased Nov. 2012 from a Mac store freezes while streaming video from Netflix and Amazon. I have tried both Google and Safari, and it happens on both browsers ... [more inside]
I'm troubled by a mysterious bug on my MacBook Air. It manifests itself when I use Microsoft PowerPoint, but I believe it is a Mac-wide issue. It is extremely rare, impossible to reproduce on demand, and yet - when it strikes, it does so with a vengeance, and embarrasses me in front of a theater full of people. [more inside]

With her black MacBook on its last legs, my sister is going to be getting a new 13" MacBook Air soon. The stock 256GB model includes a 1.8GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz processor and 4GB of (1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM) memory. The build-to-order options are a 2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz and 8GB of RAM for $90 each (Education Store prices). Knowing that processor and memory upgrades aren't possible later on, would either of these options make a big difference in performance? She uses it mostly for Office documents, some CS5 work, streaming video, web browsing and music and is hoping to keep it as her main computer for at least 4 years. Thanks for any input.

I have a Macbook Air from 2008, Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM. It's been unusably slow for the longest time but Lion seemed to revive it a bit, though the graphics performance (especially after waking from sleep) is still sometimes horribly sluggish. I don't think I can upgrade the RAM, not sure about the graphics card (suspect not), but see that you can buy a new SSD that's compatible. I'm tempted, but can't find any clear information on whether a SSD upgrade would really improve things. Does anyone know if it's worth itin terms of improved system performance? Thanks!
