A friend of mine (ahem) is eying a refurbished MacBook Pro. (Even though
a new one is supposedly imminent, we're sticking with refurb in this scenario.) How many generations old are the units in Apple's refurb store? How can you tell? Does the 2.4GHz 15" model there today include the "new" LED monitor technology introduced in February, for example?

Any advice on reviving an iMac that stalls on bootup? I hit the knowledge base, chatted with a tech, ran various tests and tried the basic tricks, but still, no go.

Let it be known, first, that I devoured past posts on
Macs and backup tools, and see a lot of things I want to try. However, I used Apple's own
Mac Backup 3 application (a .Mac tool) prior to learning here that it sucks. So, for those who have also similarly (if inexplicably) used Mac Backup, I have a question. How do I know if it worked?

Add me to the growing list of people planning to make the switch to a Mac. To those that have made the jump, how hard was it? And is it a losing proposition to buy now, with Intel-based machines coming around the bend? I know this is an AskMeFi FAQ, but I have some specific questions.
