OS X on my MacBook Pro is doing what it's supposed to do: Trying to connect with my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I'd like it to not do that when my MacBook isn't connected to my Thunderbolt display. Is there any way to automate this? [more inside]
I often have a group of files open that I'm working on as part of a project: maybe a Word doc, an Excel spreadsheet and a couple of others. Does anyone know an app that will let me "save" those as a group, and then open them all again with the same window positions? I sometimes use window managers but haven't come across something that will open the files as well.
I have been using the public betas of Mac OSX Yosemite for a while now, and I recently had to wipe my hard drive and start over. When I went to download the installer again from the App Store today, Yosemite is no longer listed under my "Purchases" as it had been before. Am I the only one this is happening to? [more inside]
I have 1000s of photos from the past 12 months. I'd like to make a movie out of these with each photo being displayed for 0.1 seconds (or something ridiculously short). How do I do this? iMovie has a min of 1 second and that's too long. Some Mac specific tool that doesn't cost too much (say under $30) would be helpful
My uncle has given me a big old box of FINAL CUT STUDIO, which is an upgrade from FINAL CUT PRO of the early 2000s. So, how can I now buy FINAL CUT PRO? [more inside]
I have a MacBook Pro from 2009, with a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo and 8 GB RAM. I am running Mavericks on it, but I find that it can be slow when it is accessing the disk a lot, and it runs hot. It meets the minimum spec for Mavericks but I am thinking that I am over-stretching it. I am planning to upgrade the 500GB HD to a 1TB hybrid. Would this be better able to run Mavericks or should I think of stepping back to something like Snow Leopard when I change the hard disk?
The OS X GUI—but only the GUI—has stopped accepting my password. Any password. [more inside]
Some really horrible stuff was going down at work. I took absolutely no part in it, and even acknowledged that it may not be legal. I did this all over email, and even received responses back acknowledging this. I was explicitly threatened that if i wasn’t going to be a part of it, then i was to “forget about it or lose your job”. So recently, they all got busted. And like a bunch of cowards, they all blamed it on me. And because I’m the low girl on the totem pole, it looks like I might have been the one doing all this stuff (without ANY proof). But I have proof! [more inside]
Specifically, it's a mplayer virus. It has infected Google Chrome and Firefox, and is showing infuriating pop-up ads and frequently redirecting the browser to ad-like pages. Who knows what else it's doing/stealing/collecting. This may be what I deserve for trying to download some TV, but I need to get rid of it. Running Mac OSX 10.8.5. [more inside]
For some recent while, probably since updating the OS X Mavericks, Microsoft Word for OS X keeps coming to the foreground on its own when I'm doing other things, as long as a document is open in Word. If I click out to the Finder, Word makes itself the frontmost program. If I click into the browser, Word comes forward. [more inside]
Several years ago, I created a shell script (or Bash or I don't know what) that establishes a secure shell proxy connection to my home router when I type a short command into Mac OS X's Terminal. Now, I need to edit that script, but I can't find it for the life of me. I've tried searching on likely names looking at both visible and invisible files. I've tried searching for content that I know must be part of the script, but nothing comes up. Rather that executing a command, is there a way to open it in a text editor or display the actual script if I don't know the location of the file on my computer? Is there any other way I could go about finding this? Is there a location that whatever guide I was following would have suggested I save this script? I tried looking in usr/bin but nothing in there seems likely.
On my Mac (OS X Mavericks), some fullscreen apps don't let me task switch away from them. AT ALL. Needless to say, this is ridiculously annoying. Is there a workaround? [more inside]
A non-geeky friend just called me asking if I had any knowledge of Final Draft - to which the answer is "minimally" - and asked for help, which I was unable to provide, in recovering or repairing a file. I am now wondering if there is something I didn't think of... [more inside]
I would like Transmission, my OS X BitTorrent client, to only download and upload torrents when I'm on my home Wi-Fi network, and to stop all activity automatically when I'm not on this network. How can I achieve this? I'm open to using different software if need be.

I'm trying to help a relative who's in a full panic about computer security, brought on both by the alarmist mainstream reporting about the gotofail bug and by some coincidental hardware issues with her OS X machine. My reassurance isn't going to cut it this time -- is there somewhere online where she can read, in lay terms, that although the bug was severe in theory / in its implications, there's very little evidence of real-world exploits? I want to draw comic storyboards. In the old days I seem to remember Appleworks drawing documents allowed you to add boxes and/or fields that allowed text or drawing. I'm looking for the new equivalent. [more inside]

and that worked just great...only it did something to the other partition which has caused it not to mount, to refer to itself as disk3s5. It refuses to mount and if I click "verify disk" it says the disk needs to be repaired and to click repair disk. When I do so I get "disk utility can't repair the disk". So what on Earth did disk utility do to the other partition which I did not ask it to touch? The original job was completed because the file system of the other partition was NTFS and it's now MacOS Extended. Any ideas?

Why is cut/copy/duplicate greyed out in Apple Preview app? When I open PDFs or XLS files in Preview by double clicking on them, I'm able to select text but cannot ever copy or cut it. Someone suggested duplicating the file first, but that option is also greyed out. 10.9.1 Why? Thanks!
When I burn a CD, some songs that sound fine in iTunes on my computer will inexplicably have between 3-20 seconds of 'silence' at the beginning, thus causing my car's CD player to skip them if I don't fast forward to the actual music...WTF? (do my best to give some Tech Specs inside!) [more inside]
I'm all ready to upgrade to Mavericks (OSX 10.9) except for one thing. On Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I am able to open Safari's "Activity window" and see most video files as they're loading there (however, not certain sites like Hulu). From that window, it's an easy Option-Click to download said video file. Safari 7.0 doesn't have this ability. Is there a Safari 7.0 add-on or something that will bring this ability back to Safari? Hi, I am looking for a whole-window screenshot application for Mac OS X. I have and use Paparazzi, but need to take SS images of login-state dependent webpages, which Paparazzi can't do. I would prefer an app that works as SnapzPro used to, where the SS includes all the content below the fold of a webpage and the screenshot-taking app does not need or gain independent login access to the target page. Thanks in advance!
What to expect, what to watch out for, does upgrading make sense at this iteration, is it going to be a disappointing hassle or a marvelous new world? [more inside]

If I've upgraded PHP on my Mac, should I now avoid all OS X Updates? I'm hosting a website on a Mac mini in a datacenter, and some of my software required a newer version of PHP than what's included out-of-the-box in OS X Mountain Lion. I keep getting the notification saying system updates are ready, and restart to install. But I'm scared it's going to overwrite my PHP upgrades and break everything. And it took me an insanely long time to get the PHP upgrade to work properly and play nicely with OS X Server.

For years I opened dozens of photos at once in Preview on the Mac, cropped them all, and hit the button marked 'Save All Changes.' Since shifting to Mountain Lion I now have to hit the Save button dozens of times to accomplish the same thing. Is there a better way to do this, or a different, better program?

I'd like to use the color labels in finder more extensively to help manage files all over my computer, not just for certain areas. Because the labels are system wide the names don't always match the intentions for certain folders labels tend to be cumbersome and not clear in meaning. Areas that I would like labels to work well in are: Downloads, work project folders, Desktop, Archive folders and media folders. Labels that work for one area don't mesh with others. Have you been able to figure out some names for the color labels that are elegant and useful in every user folder in the filesystem? I'm not looking for a way to use spotlight comments or another program to handle this - I'm specifically interested a solid naming convention for elegant, useful color label names. Thanks!
I would like to take a calendar in iCal and turn it into a list of events with times / locations. Basically turn a schedule that I've built in iCal into format suitable for text distribution to a bunch of different people. Seems simple! But I can't figure it out. Copying and pasting events from iCal into a text document randomizes the order, which is a huge hassle. Help me, hive mind!
I, sadly, have to keep an eye on an Exchange e-mail account. There is no IMAP. Is there a small Mac app that will live in the menu bar and notify me of new e-mail that actually works? Bonus if I can quickly reply to the e-mail when it appears. [more inside]
