Important Skype Issue! I primarily use Skype for voicemails, however I am getting lots of complaints that Skype's line is busy. Every time I open Skype the preferences are set to only allow calls from people in my contact list. I keep setting them to allow calls from anyone and they keep going back to only accepting calls from people in my contacts list.

Does anyone know a way to stop icons from bouncing on the OS X doc? I'm NOT talking about unchecking "animate opening applications" in the dock preferences. That only stops opening-app bounces. I want to stop warning bounces, too. They drive me crazy. Please note that I'm using an INTEL Mac (Leopard). I've only been able to find solutions for PowerPC Macs.

The disk in my MBP was upgraded from 100GB to 250GB. They used a hardware disk to disk copier that just cloned the drive, bit for bit. Now, I want to grow my 100GB partition to fill up the new space, however Disk Utility only sees the drive as 100GB. About 4 months ago, my beloved PowerBook got in the way of a cup of coffee. I typically use Safari, and have my preferences set to store all of my passwords and user names in my Keychain.app. However when it starts acting up and giving me the spinning beach ball, I use Camino (v. 1.0.3.) When I try to log in to a website, it asks me for my user name and password - do I really have to fill in ALL those passwords and user names all over again? In other words, is there any way I can get Camino to access the passwords I saved using Safari? [more inside]

The power connector to my G4 Powerbook is almost dead. It only charges in one very specific position, and I have to twist it around for a few seconds to find the sweetspot (rotating it in situ). Nothing is loose and nothing is visibly wrong. I tried squeezing the metal sleeve slightly to make it more elliptical in the hope this would create a tighter connection, but it made no difference. My mother has an Acer LCD (model AL1715) hooked up to her Mac Mini. The warranty expired 3 days ago, and last night it woke up after being asleep for about 45 minutes with a black line across it - the image divided in such a way that the image has rolled - that is, the bottom is at the top and the top at the bottom, split not quite equal halves. Disconnecting and reconnecting don't work, powering off and back on don't work, changing the display mode on the mac doesn't work, and we can't find a reset button. Acer doesn't answer tech support phone calls (endless holds) or emails. Any ideas?

MacFilter: Where did all the space go? I was using my Powerbook (OS 10.4.1) last night and at last glance it had 4.5GB of space left. After working on iPhoto and Firefox, both of which hung for minutes during operation and while quitting, I got a message saying I was running out of disk space. It turned out I only had 200MB left. I just cannot change the group of my Music folder. I created a new group called "music" as a first step towards allowing my SO to share my iTunes library directly. I try to set the Music folder (and its contents) to being part of "music", but no dice. The "get info" window says that it's changed. But as soon as I click the lock to prevent further changes, it switches back to the group of me. If I close the get info window and don't hit the lock, then call up get info again, I see that the attempted group change hasn't stuck. I also cannot change the group ID to "admin." As root, it doesn't work either, but then I get a mysterious error called "-60002." chgrp doesn't work from the shell, either. Is this a known bug or am I missing something?

This old Mac: My 450 Mhz G4 has held up for about 5 years now. I was on the market for a new iMac G5, but as we Mac people will be wanting to upgrade to intel machines in a couple years, this seems like an unwise purchase (the Osborne effect and all). My Dual 1.25GHz PowerMac G4 (like most) is REALLY loud. I had the power supply replaced, which helped some, but the fans run constantly and it sounds like a wind tunnel.
This was a pretty big controversey in 02/03, but it seems to have died down. Well, now my Mac is driving me crazier by the day. Does anyone have any tips on how to make this thing quieter? Barring that, is the G5 quieter (say, in the Dual 2GHz variety)? I'd be willing to sell my current Mac on eBay and spend a few hundred bucks for an upgrade I really don't need, basically to get a quieter machine.

Can you use an IBM-Formatted Zip disk on a Mac? These are the old 100mb internal Zip Disk Drives, not the new 250mb drives. My design prof told us we must have the Mac-formatted disks or else the computer will eat our files. I really don't want to go to the extra expense of buying a 3 pack of Mac-formatted disks, especially since I have 3 brand new IBM-compatible zip disks laying around.
