I have SharePoint 2010 sites, with lists, libraries and InfoPath forms. SharePoint is only worth a goddamn in Internet Explorer, as you probably know. I have a bunch of Mac users who do not like to use a virtual machine. These are senior-type Mac users, however. What can I do to bridge the gap? [more inside]
I just tried to set up Apple Mail on my laptop and it insists on downloading the whole !@#$% archive for every account I link to it. Googling around, I get the sense this is a common complaint. Is there some kind of Apple Mail or Outlook alternative that will let me configure a Gmail account and an Exchange account to download all NEW mail but not any OLD mail? I'd be willing to pay for it. I don't need much functionality--mostly something that'll work when I'm offline. A Mail or Outlook clone that doesn't insist on this downloading-and-storing-1.1GB-of-email nonsense would be fine with me. [more inside]
Why can't I select a given local Mac as an Airplay playback device? [more inside]
I lost a lot of documents from the Notes app on my mid-2012 Macbook Air. Is there ANY way they are recoverable? [more inside]
Aaaaaaaahh!!! Friend tried to fix my macbook and erased my hard drive in the process. Now I get a white "stop" symbol when I try logging in, which apparently means that my Mac can't find a valid System Folder to start up from. I'm beyond warranty--how do I get my macbook working again? [more inside]
Google-able information about this problem appears to be fragmented and riddled with wise-guyage and pop-ups, so here I am: Which new-to-be-bought printer would work seamlessly with OS X 10.4 Tiger? Emphasis on "seamless" because [more inside]
What's the best way to plug my electric guitar into my Mac to record (I'm using GarageBand) and what's the best way to output from my Mac to an amp/PA (say if I'm using GarageBand's virtual effects to play live)? [more inside]
I'm a graduate student and the research project I am working on requires me to analyze articles and pictures from old newspapers. I took photos of what I needed, and then saved the info about each one (date, author, title, page number, etc) in iPhoto. Sadly, when iPhoto "updated" to the newer version, this data was lost. I am looking for a more reliable way to store this data alongside the photos. Right now I just have it written in notebooks the old fashioned way - there has to be a better option. I want to attach the info directly to the photo so that if I switch computers or applications, it will still be in the file for good. I hope this makes sense, I am not great with technology.
I didn't ask it to, but my iPhone lately keeps trying to download more music to its library. Any clues? [more inside]
I use Outlook for work on my Mac (El Capitan 10.11.6). There seems to be no way to make the computer have Outlook be the default client, so this is a last-ditch attempt to find an answer. According to Microsoft, in theory you just open the Mail app and then use Mail's preferences to choose Outlook as the default. It doesn't work. You can tell Mail to use Outlook at the default, but it reverts back to Mail almost immediately without you telling it to. What am I missing? [more inside]
So I took a bunch of photos on a trip to Japan and the time and date are wrong on all of them because of a mistaken camera setting. Is there a way to change the metadata for the files somehow all at once instead of one at a time?
Yesterday I opened up my laptop to discover it had crashed. When I rebooted, a new mystery icon was in the menu bar. Looks like a little square speech bubble with another square in the middle. [more inside]
I'd like to put in a few security cameras and a recorder... and be able to access the whole thing from a Mac. Does anything on the market do that? [more inside]
The hard drive in my 2011 27" iMac was failing, and has been replaced. It's a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 and I was told to try recovering the data myself first. But Googling has only left me more confused. Walk me through this? [more inside]
I’m running OS X10.11.6. A week or so ago a new folder showed up on my hard drive, labeled only with a tilde (~). I have no idea where it came from, and can't get rid of it. [more inside]
After a lot of research I think that the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW 15inch 4K Touchscreen Laptop is everything she needs and costs the same amount as the 13" Macbook Pro she would buy, but I'm worried about Adobe compatibility. [more inside]
I’m planning to buy either a used Air or a new MacBook, though I wish I could wait for the next update instead. The Air has been on "Don't Buy" status at MacRumors for months. But a MacBook with comparable performance could be $500 more including the port adapters I’d need. (Is it ok to buy those cheap, from third party manufacturers, and to daisy-chain them?) Compiling files is much faster on my SSD-equipped laptop than on my iMac with a traditional hard drive. I'd like my desktop machine to blaze like the laptop. But I wonder: would this happen with just an external SSD drive and all my files moved over to it? Or would I need to replace the internal drive?
Half the apps on my iMac that sync with iCloud have corrupt or missing .plist files that prevent them from launching. Signing out of iCloud, restarting, and logging back in to reset synced data did not resolve problems. Running First Aid on drive returns no errors. What next? [more inside]
I have a slideshow of 392 photos in iPhoto version 8.1.2. I would like to show these photos tomorrow at a local event where I will have a table/booth but where I will not have electricity. So I want to put them on my iPad, which has better battery life than my ancient laptop. How do I do this? [more inside]

I want a 23"/24" monitor for my mac mini. I do a lot of writing/reading PDFs + long texts plus fair amount of photo editing. Speakers wanted. Not sure if webcams in monitors are worth it. Would be used in sunny room in FL, so anti-glare advice welcome as well. Thanks.
My daughter took a songwriting class at school this year and they used Logic. Her laptop is a Macbook Air. Is there something similar or is compatible we can get for her Mac? She wants to make mostly dance type music. Is it worth getting a keyboard to go with the laptop? And do we want to think about getting something that she can record with? (she also has an acoustic guitar.) Any advice for the budding electronic musician would be appreciated!
I was replacing a trackpad in my MacBook Pro (about 2012 model). After I booted back up the keyboard stopped responding. Is there anything obvious I could have unplugged or damaged to make this happen?
My iMac hard drive is having issues. The computer wouldn't boot, etc., so I started up disk utility to repair the disk and got an error. Should I replace the entire disk? [more inside]

Asking for a friend - the last time they did webcomics, it was on a free version of Photoshop Elements that came with their multi-function printer. They would sketch on paper and scan and work miracles in Elements in Windows XP. They're now on a Mac, and many years have passed, and Photoshop Elements is kinda pricey compared to the competition and looks and acts weird compared to what they're used to. What now? [more inside]
I'm looking for a pack of images, each one of a number from 0 to 99. PNG format would be best, but if that's not available I'm not fussy. If there was also a way that I can script this in Photoshop or in Automator (Mac), or some other way to create them. I'd like to download something to test an idea, but eventually will have to make the images to my own specs. [more inside]
I have Prey installed on my Mac and need to uninstall it to troubleshoot an Internet connectivity issue. They provide no uninstaller—their site only instructs to type in a command line in Terminal, but when I do so I get "Command not found." I have written Prey three times and they do not respond. Anyone have suggests? Thanks very much...
I've moved to an office which uses Macbooks and Gmail/Google calendar. I can't believe I'm saying this but I miss Outlook! My company won't pay for a licence, but I'd be willing to pay for it myself to bring some order back to my life. Is this possible? Can I buy something like this and sych it with my company Gmail? The reviews are pretty poor, would it be more hassle than it's worth? Anything else I should consider? [more inside]
I'm looking at the MacBook Retina. I see it only has a USB C port. And there is a dongle from Apple that supposedly allows one to hook this thing up to hdmi. Please tell if you have used this because reviews are all over the place. Bonus: is there a dock or hub that has both ethernet AND hdmi? [more inside]
I have about 500GB of files (mostly photos and music) on my iMac that I want to move to a Windows laptop. I need to use an external drive to copy them. Can I copy the Mac files onto my external drive via my iMac's bootcamp Windows partition to avoid file-type compatibility problems? [more inside]
Tomorrow is my last day at a job I’ve been at for years. For all that time, the company has owned my only computer and my only phone. Much of what’s on both is the company’s, and of course I’ll leave that behind. There are some personal documents that I know are mine, and I know how to keep them. Is there other stuff tucked away on the Mac or the iPhone that I may want to keep? What, and how? [more inside]
Technology keeps changing and I know you guys are on top of it more than I am... so helllllpppp! We want to create a database of detailed text information, photos, videos, links, etc. (whatever I can find) that can be tagged and accessed easily when we're looking to provide a client answers on a topic. Before we compile and input it all, I want to make sure we're using the best possible resource to build it instead of just throwing it all into evernote or Excel without looking into other (possibly better, easier and more flexible) solutions. Weird situation. I have two Mac computers right next to each other. One recognized the wifi on the Airport and logs in no problem. The other sees the network but can’t log in. I’m usually pretty say with these things but no luck resetting airport, running diagnostic tool or rebooting. I’m stumped. only thing I can think of was I used the utility privacy scan and it might have tossed some Finder cache files. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

Was watching Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs movie, which opens with a 1984 Mac crashing with the message, "Unimplemented trap." I Googled and could only find references as far back as OS 7 (1991) so I was wondering if this was dramatic license?
I am trying to back up my Gmail account to my home computer, a MacBook Pro. I am able to sync the account and have downloaded most of my messages/attachments, but the native Mac mail program only downloads messages as far back as 2006. (My Gmail account goes back to 2004.) Disk space is not a problem. I have also made sure the setting for limiting the number of messages to download is not checked. Any other ideas? Thanks!
So, this is a longshot. Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, I had a (very minor) part in the Mac OS modding scene via the long-departed ResExcellence and Kaleidoscope scheme community. As part of that, I worked with someone who called themselves Phydeaux. I'd like to see if they're still around somewhere. [more inside]
I've got a late 2009 iMac that has been experiencing this same issue for a long time. Every time I start up Spotlight completely re-indexes the hard drive. As a result, the system is slow for minutes after system startup. What would make it do this so consistently? [more inside]
I've got a 2011 MBP that I'd like to prep for sale. It's still running Snow Leopard (and I don't have the boot disks.) What's the easiest, most idiot-proof way to wipe it clean so I can sell it? Is it worth going to the Apple Store for this sort of thing?
