I would like to display Karaoke lyrics over a
live webcam feed. This means I might need a skype (or equivalent) plugin that plays the music & lyrics,
or find some karaoke software with the ability to display lyrics over a transparent background. (That is, to have windowless karaoke display, and run the webcam feed behind it. )
All the software (I can find) to play
.CDG (karaoke lyric standard) files forces them to be played with an image background, or over a video file.

The Books have a song called "
Free Translator" (
YouTube link) in which the somewhat nonsensical
lyrics started out as a "very well known folk song", but were passed through free web translators again and again until they became something completely different. Does anyone know/can anyone figure out what the original song was? It will be harder than it sounds. The answer does not appear to be on the internet yet...

This is incredibly vague, but metafilter is equally helpful for stuff like this! I heard a song with a male singer and the chorus was something like "I want to hear a symphony" and then how he wanted more out of life or a relationship.

What is the song from the 1960s or so with the funny male name in it? I was explaining to some friends the other day that when I was a kid I thought Simon & Garfunkel was one guy, Simon N. Garfunkel - a funny name like that funny man's name in some song from around the same time (sixties or seventies, but it could have been a fifties song). I can't think of the name or the song, though. Anyone?

I love the Neil Young track "For the Turnstiles." It's a great performance of a great song. I walk around the house singing it, annoying my wife and frightening my children. But I've got to come to grips with the fact that I can't quite decipher whatever the literal meaning of the lyrics might be. Can you help me?

Country Song-ID help: very little to go on. A friend was in
a bar in Nashville last weekend, and wants to ID a song she heard (DJ, not live music). The only lyric she remembers is "stay off my hit list". Not much to go on, I know. I assume it's a recent song, but can't guarantee that. Googling hasn't helped. Thanks for any help you can give!
Hmm..posting at 7:30 on July 3rd might not be the best idea. Oh well.

I'm trying to find a song I heard a couple of years ago on public radio. All I remember is that it was maybe folk/bluegrass, and it was a guy singing about the red-headed woman that he loved, but in the end he revealed that she was a red-head from all the blood pouring over her blond hair.

Just a fun one (though I am serious in asking it): What one question would you ask Elvis Costello? I'll see him at a thing on Monday, want to ask a great question. I like him a lot, have some ideers, but surely the Hive Mind can come up with at least one question that's Beyond Belief.

In "Thunder Road", the lyric "Roy Orbison singing for the lonely, hey that's me and I want you only, don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again" can be interpreted differently depending on where you break the line, before or after the word "only".
Is there a name for this particular poetic device? Do you know of other examples?
