I heard a song this morning as I pulled into my work and didn't hear the end of it as I was running a bit late and figured I could Google it later. Well, that didn't work, so now I'm asking you guys. [more inside]

I heard a song on the CBC a couple weeks ago and can't seem to identify it.
It was a female singer, singing a blues song. The opening line was something along the lines of:
"You told me you went fishing, but I am doubtful, because I don't know any fish that wear lipstick."

Heard a song at work on the Muzak, googled it, couldn't find it. It was a female singer, jazzy-sounding. I recall her mentioning the "humdrum blues." The lyric I wrote down was "work like a dog but I'm mighty poor." I googled "humdrum blues," but what I found was a different song, and googling the lyrics got me nothing.

In Black Snake Moan
, Samuel L Jackson sings an unusual version of Stackerlee. Were those particular lyrics written for the movie, were they cobbled together out of other versions, or was he copying an earlier performance outright? [more inside]

BluesFilter: A couple of years ago, a friend and I were flipping past the blues channel on XM radio, and stumbled across the one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. I want to find a copy for my friend for a Christmas gift. Of course, I have no idea what the song actually is. Help me, O HiveMind! [more inside]

About 10 years ago, I heard a classic blues song by a female vocalist that pops back into my head. The song lyrics are a double entendre with the vocalist talking about a chair, with verses for the legs, seat and back, possibly more. Does it spark anybody's memory? [more inside]

In traditional blues songs you sometime hear the term "ventilator".
I know it's a piece of modern medical equipment, but what the heck was Robert Johnson talking about in the 1930s?
