I'm an overweight (technically obese) triathlete who was recently put on a calorie-restricted (1200-1400/day), moderately carb-restricted (100-130 g/day) diet by my doctor(s). They also have me front-loading my calories into breakfast and lunch at the expense of dinner. It's been hard on me in various ways, physically and psychologically -- my training is suffering, and I really miss being able to share a normal dinner with my partner. I'm also on seriously non-optional medication that makes it hard for me to lose weight and, relatedly, has probably made me insulin-resistant. Help me cope. (Psychological beanplating as well as gory metabolic details for nutrition nerds within.) [more inside]

I've done a very strict no carb diet for 3.5 weeks now, and haven't lost any weight, haven't seen any change in clothing fit, never felt particularly terrible (ie never saw a "carb crash"). BF who is eating the same exact diet has visibly shed pounds and looks fantastic.
I know women tend to loose weight much slower then men, but this is feeling a little rediculous. Should I stay with the diet? [more inside]

Managing gestational diabetes fairly well by eating paleo/low carb and injecting insulin (tiny dose, rarely) when anticipating higher glucose levels. Now I read pregnant women should load carbs shortly before and during the childbirth itself. I'd like to avoid both a carb crash and hypoglycemia during delivery. I also worry about the baby being hypoglycemic if I have high glucose levels during delivery and I'm getting conflicting info (yes, danger v. no, too short a time to impact baby). So, what to eat leading up to and during delivery?

I'm on a low carbohydrate diet and I love cocktails, so I'm trying to figure out the best was to make a simple syrup replacement that tastes decent and has an ok mouth feel. Have you got a go to recipe that doesn't crystallize or have some funky aftertaste? [more inside]

What's a good low-carb substitute for toast for the purpose of sopping up over-easy egg yolks?

Trying to combat dehydration while on low carbohydrate diet. During ketosis, everything tastes terrible. Trying to keep up with water intake, but ketosis taste in my throat makes plain water terrible. Looking for further suggestions. [more inside]

Can you suggest unprocessed or minimally processed foods for hiking day trips (approx. 12 hours) and three-day backpacking trips? The catch: no refined carbohydrates. [more inside]

I'm looking for a satisfying* low-carb protein bar which is also soy-free. Any recommendations? Any bars you hate? I am leaning toward the Biogenesis bars.
Also, suggestions for high-protein, low carb items that are quick to fix/pack/take along with me when I need to be out and about are welcome!
*I don't expect utter deliciousness, but I'd like something that isn't cardboardy.
