My fiancé is going on tour in support of a major pop act. This means consecutive three-month absences for the next year (maybe two) as she performs. This is her calling and her art and I support it 100%. Still, I dread her long absence and I am going to miss her as fiercely as I love her. I'm looking for ways to maintain our strength, equality, and communication, and to stave off problems that must arise. Particularly advice, anecdotes, and specific things that helped your (similar) relationship - or hurt it.
My partner and I, two girls, have this slight thing bothering us when we talk about our future engagement. We both want to be proposed to. Is there a way we can make this happen?
My partner is planning to propose in a matter of a few months. I want have something that I can surprise HIM with when he proposes to me! Is it acceptable for a woman to give a reciprocal proposal gift to the man? And if it is acceptable, would a barbecue be a little too bizarre? [more inside]

I asked him to marry me. I live in a very open-minded, liberal and culturally aware area. To my surprize, the general reaction to learning about the engagement is one of complete shock. People seem so amazed that I was bold enough to get down on one knee, ring in hand, and propose to him. Which led me to the question of, how common is it nowadays, for the woman to ask the man to marry? [more inside]
What did you say to your significant other when you asked for their hand in marriage? Or, on the flip side, what was said to you? [more inside]
The girl I love is leaving our work team, and before she goes I want to buy her an engagement ring. I think she may be the one. The trouble is that (a) I don't know what kind of rings she likes, (b) I don't know what size ring she wears, (c) I don't think she'll say 'yes', and (d) I love her more than she loves me. Quite possibly my love for her is unrequited. We're both professionals in our 30s, we've had a couple dates, and she knows I care about her. She doesn't know how much though. What are your thoughts and suggestions?
