Los Angeles Filter: I am a geeky/artsy gal who is currently based in NYC, who for various inextricable reasons is slated to get married in Los Angeles this summer. I am completely overwhelmed by LA and how little I know about it, but I am trying to make the most of the situation. I have a few questions which you LA-folk might be kind enough to help me with. I'm not the wedding-planning type at all, and so far my only main goal is that the wedding happen in an interesting place, which is somewhat compatible with my traditional extended family from their somewhat ostentatious culture. Big, giant sigh. [more inside]

I am looking for a list of Pacific Telephone/Pacific Bell switching stations that were built before the 1980s around Los Angeles County. I want to do a series of photographic portraits of them. It seems like this information may be "suppressed for reasons of homeland security" but if anyone had any suggestions of where I may be able to dig it up archivally, it would be much appreciated!

I hate my big corporate bank that rhymes with "face". They keep screwing up, it's impossible to talk to someone on the phone who can fix their mistakes, and they have an aggressive campaign to screw over their customers with overdraft coverage. I'd like recommendations for a better bank or credit union in the Los Angeles area, for basic checking/savings accounts (and possibly an auto loan). Even better if it will work with Mint.com.

I want to go out dancing/clubbing in Los Angeles, but none of my friends are interested. Where can a 24 year old girl go dancing at night, and walk back alone to her car without much worry? Also, other than randomly walking up to people and awkwardly trying to nudge my way into their circle, how on earth do I expand my horizons and meet/make friends with similarly minded people?

How and where does a chick in her late twenties meet guys in Los Angeles? I'm single for the first time in eons, and I'm just starting to come out of my shy shell, too. I'm looking forward to the casual dating scene, except I'm clueless as to where to go (and what to do)! I *don't* want to try anything internet-related (not even meetups) this time. The internet's always been a crutch for me, and I want to overcome that. I will sometimes be with other friends, but sometimes I'm going to be on my own. Which I'm excited about! ...but a total n00b. Help me figure out where to go and how to attract some attention without desperately clinging to a friend's arm. [more inside]
Web design firm recommendations in the Los Angeles area? [more inside]
I live in northern Virginia, however all of my family lives in the Los Angeles area. At work, I have to keep my web browsing to a bare minimum and restricted to my lunch break. As such, I'm worried about the Big One hitting the LA area, and not knowing about it ASAP, especially if LA's phone lines and cell towers get knocked out. Is there any way I could arrange for a text message to be sent to my cellphone, for every earthquake that hits the LA Basin? I realize this may turn out to be excessive, but am willing to experiment.

I'm thinking of going to LA for the first week in May. I've never been there before, don't have a full driver's license, and am low on funds. Also, what kind of license would I need to rent a Vespa type scooter? [more inside]
Where are the art and craft galleries in the Los Angeles area? I'm looking for galleries that sell art, jewelry, pottery and so on that's not mass-produced, but not crazy expensive fine art either.
