I've been doing frontend web development for around 15 years and want to find a new position at the lead/architect level. I know a few sites to look at, and plenty of recruiters contact me, but what else can I do? [more inside]
I just signed up for Uber and I want to do right by the driver. A service charge is included, and the web site says "no need to tip." Is tipping really not expected? [more inside]
We'll be in L.A. for 2-3 weekdays in mid-March, and while one of our evenings is scheduled, we have no idea what to do with the rest of our time. We'll be staying in or near Hollywood, and won't have a car, but don't mind taking transit. We're especially looking for suggestions for one really very nice, splurge-y place for dinner, as well as great inexpensive places to eat. Also interested in: coffee-snob coffee; fancy cocktails; craft beer; fun/interesting/unique places to shop; anything else that seems interesting. We also really like live shows (comedy/improv/podcast/music), but most of the L.A. shows we know about are on the weekend. And I'm planning to go to Jenette Bras for a fitting, but I'd love suggestions for any other bra shops that carry sizes in the G+ range.

I'm on a work trip until Saturday (5 days from now), and a coworker mentioned that he left his dog alone in his apartment for the duration of the trip. The nature of my job makes it really difficult to directly confront the issue with the person--but I can if that's the only option. I have a friend in LA who is ready to get the dog, and I know the address but obviously we don't have access to the apartment. Any information about resources to get the dog out would be great. It's been alone since 9:00 pst this morning and apparently has food and water. Thanks.
Simple as the question is. I'm going on a trip to LA in a few weeks and I would like to attend a taping of Doug Loves Movies and attend the free Sunday version of ASSSCAT and I understand you have to show up early to wait in line and guarantee a seat. So my question to you lovely people who live in Los Angeles and have been/go to these shows is - How early should I show up?

I'm going to be in Los Angeles from June 6 to June 11. I'll be hiring a car to get around L.A. - though we'll mostly be sticking to Central LA and Santa Monica over that weekend (7/8 June). I've been to L.A. before and done most of the touristy things - relying on both local buses and hop on/hop off tourist buses. Because I'll have a car this time, I was wondering what recommendations people have for things to see and places to go that are tricky to get to without a car. Anything within a couple of hours drive of Los Angeles. Thanks.
I'lll be living in Los Angeles for two months on a professional development opportunity for my job. Will be living in Lincoln Heights and will be sans car. I've been to LA probably about 15 times over the last 4 years or so, but I'll never have lived there. Looking forward to getting a little bit better sense of what daily life is like there. Whenever I get hungry, I wish I lived in Moss Landing. I would be at Phil's all the time. It's pretty much my dream eatery. Super casual, extremely yummy, reasonably priced for what you get. Where can I get that type of experience here on the west side of LA? [more inside]

I've just recently come back from a week-long vacation to Los Angeles where I got to stay with my aunt and we had a great time seeing things and visiting places. This winter I'll be going to a holiday party to which I'll need to bring the most exotic chocolate I can find. Apparently some guests to this party start their search for exotic goods six months in advance because of reasons, but as I am new to this universe I'd like to at least attempt to bring something of note now that I've been allowed to join the inner circle as it were. Where in San Diego, Orange County, or Los Angeles could I get delicious but intriguing chocolate? [more inside]

I will be doing a photo shoot for my men's surfwear line Friday night. Nightlife theme of "Surfing the Lights of the City" I am looking for some good spots for the shoot with great well lit. backdrops. Either of the city or streetlife. Public spots or rooftops would be great. Some suggestions given by friends include the Arclight Theatre, old apartment rooftops in Franklin Village near Hollywood and roof tops downtown. Any suggestions???

Any know based on previous years whether the Dia de los Muertos event at Hollywood Forever cemetery in Los Angeles is likely to have available walk-up ticket sales during the evening? Or, do they typically sell out? (All their official communications channels appear to be swamped, and I don't know anyone who's been there late in the day.)
A friend recently posted pictures from a fairly-fashionable (potentially used?) furniture store "somewhere in LA," but won't spill the beans about where it is! I'd like to find it and pick up some of this goodness. Hoping that one of you might know where it is. Thank you!! Pictures: 1 2 3 4 [more inside]
I'm trying to create an pretty good airbender/air nomad costume for halloween. In particular I'm looking for advice on people I might turn to in Los Angeles to temporarily give me the iconic arrow tattoos. Do I want body paint? Henna tattoos? Something else? What do I need to be aware of if I've never done anything like this before? Also interested in any tips for putting together the red/yellow outfit -- either pieces I could buy off the shelf (over the internet or locally) that are close, or people I could go to.
Where can I buy sweet pineapple tamales in Los Angeles WITHOUT raisins or nuts or anything else mixed in? Ideally, I wouldn't need to buy at least a dozen or order them ahead of time. Thanks!
Good news: After a long period of being broke as a joke, I fell into a little bit of cash. I'd like to take the lady friend on a trip. She recently mentioned that she'd never seen a real night sky. I'd like to change that. Where, say, plus/minus 2 hours from Los Angeles can two young folk go see a sky full of starts? More inside. [more inside]

What do Californians think and feel about the possibility of future big earthquakes in that region, especially the so-called "Big One"? I'm looking for articles which really get into how those who dwell there handle that knowledge, respond to it, and so on. Articles about building standards or government response are fine, but I would like to know about individuals, groups, businesses and the like. [more inside]

What are the best taco trucks in Los Angeles? Not Twitter trucks or Kogi trucks or grilled cheese vans or mobile record stores or cheesecake-foie gras-waffle-popsicle high concept rickshaws. Those are all cool, but looking at trucks that sell straight up Mexican food like tacos and cemitas and tortas and seafood, what are your favorites? And what days/hours are they there? [more inside]
I've been invited by a pornographer friend to watch the production of a porn movie on-set; the director told my friend they'd be happy to have me, provided we "have good set etiquette" and are generally not creepy or horrible. Which I can totally do! :) But I'm worried about the "good set etiquette" part. I assume most of it is commonsense, like "don't get in the way of people who are there to do their jobs," but is there anything special I should know about good set etiquette in the porn industry specifically? Anything that might not be immediately obvious? The last thing I'd want to do is make either my friend or the director regret the invitation.
My little sister -- an athletic, smart, totally awesome 12-year-old -- will be staying with me in the greater LA area in a couple weeks. I've been living here for a few years, but most of my spare time is spent on things like galleries/museums, strange, arty movie theaters, or experimental music shows (either watching or playing). This is the life for me, but I don't expect it to be enjoyable for my kid sister. So what are some fun things for a smart, conscientious pre-teen (tween? I don't know the terminology anymore) girl that likes to be outdoors or reading? [more inside]
