Can you provide a referral to a lawyer and/or an accountant with experience advising small businesses (internet based) in the start-up phase? I'm located in Los Angeles in the South Bay area.

MN / CA or bust! My SO has received a job offer that could have us moving from Boston to either St. Paul or LA - our choice. I have job leads in both places, but we just can't decide where to go! Both cities seem to rock, but their (perceived) drawbacks make me hesitate.

My fiancee and I are going to Los Angeles for 5 days, spending a night in Carmel/Monterey, and then spending 3 nights in San Francisco. What should we do and be sure not to miss?
We're 24/25 and from outside NYC. Sports, shopping, etc are all up our alley. Thanks.

I eat out a lot. I go to the same restaurants a lot. I want to branch out and try some new places. First, what are some restaurants in Los Angeles that provide good value (not necessarily the cheapest, expensive is fine too, but you should get what you pay for in terms of food quality and ambiance). Second, is there an on-line resource that tracks this kind of thing so that I could easily figure out what's cool/hot/good/whatever in LA dining?

My girlfriend would like to sell a silver heart necklace with a small (~0.10 ct) diamond. It was purchased ~6 years ago for ~$400 on clearance somewhere. That's about all the information we have about it. Questions:
What's the best way of going about selling such a thing? Ebay?
Does it need to be appraised? How much does that typically cost?

I'm going to be in Los Angeles for E3 in two weeks with a bunch of friends. What do we
need to see? What restaurants do we need to visit? We'll have the whole afternoon available for sight-seeing the day before the expo, where should we go? We're spending a boatload on the plane trip and the hotel, so thrift is a virtue. We're all pretty adventurous, so a junky-looking restaurant with transcendent food would be totally fine. We'll be primarily downtown for the show and near LAX for the hotel, so things in those areas are preferred.

Anyone know of any good books, plays, or other material about
Suzanne Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau, a.k.a. "Mademoiselle Nation"? She was an eleven-year-old girl adopted by the French revolutionaries after her father's murder by a royalist. Her portrait by
Jacques-Louis David is currently on display at the Getty in Los Angeles, and as the book blog
Romancing the Tome says the story of her life would make for excellent reading. Surely she's found her way into print by now?

When did Los Angeles drivers begin to consistently make illegal left turns, against a red light? In LA last week, my wife and I noticed that the last two or three cars making a left turn at an intersection did so even though the green arrow had stopped showing. And are there other places besides Southern California where these (belated, illegal, dangerous) turns happen regularly? [A bit more inside]

Jewelry Question: I would like to get my engagement ring cleaned and resized smaller. I'm worried about this because I've heard stories of jewelers taking the ring from you to the "back" to do the work, but then exchanging the diamonds for lower quality stones. Also, it doesn't need a major resize...it's just large enough to annoy me (keeps turning around on my finger, for example), but it won't fall off by itself. There are SO many listings for jewelers -- I feel like its like finding a good mechanic -- difficult, and better if you can get a recommendation. Can anyone recommend a jeweler (in the Los Angeles area) that they trust and had a good experience/history with? Is it a bad idea to resize a platinum ring with diamonds in it to a slightly smaller size? [Oh--and I don't want to go back to where the ring was purchased.]

About tempeh. I've been driving 20 miles occasionally to get tempeh burgers from
native foods . I've bought both of their cookbooks and I intend to start making my own burgers. I assume that I can I find tempeh at health food stores but I assume that there is a lot of variability between tempeh brands. I was hoping that I could get pointers to local brands (in Los Angeles) that would be well suited to making veggie burgers. Any tips on cooking tempeh would be appreciated too.

Wondering if there's a book about the history of LA restaurants. For my December birthday, a friend gave me
"Minnesota Eats Out," a fun, colorful book from the Minnesota Historical Society Press. As a former Minnesota restaurant editor and critic, I loved it. Now I'd like to find a similar book about Los Angeles-San Fernando Valley restaurants for my California in-laws, who have many fond memories of LA restaurants, some gone, some still serving today. Does anyone know of such a book?

I was thinking about going to Griffith Park (Los Angeles) today. I've never been, and it's so massive, I don't even know where to start. A couple of web sites recommend taking the hike up from the observatory. I know the observatory is closed though, and I got the sense that hike is too. My main goal is photography. My secondary goal is to experience an LA treasure that I have shamefully left unexplored. Any experienced advice? Where to Park, what to avoid, what to do? I'll be coming in from the 110 N to the 5 N if that impacts any suggestions as to where to start.
