Banking in Los Angeles, with low balances and many cash deposits.

People of Pasadena ... and the rest of Los Angeles. How do you carry a low balance in a bank or credit union, and not get charged for having less than $100? Also, unlimited access to the CO-OP ATM network, for cash deposits. [more inside]

Off-season candy corn in Los Angeles

Where can I buy candy corn in Los Angeles, this weekend? Preferably convenient to Pasadena/Burbank? Difficulty: don't want to experiment by making my own, and buying it online will be too slow.

Reviving a dead garden?

I moved into a house with a large, dead backyard garden. The garden's soil is hard as rock, and there are no weeds. Bad, right? I'd like to plant herbs and vegetables, but I don't know how to start. [more inside]

Where does a lonely girl go to dance, safely?

I want to go out dancing/clubbing in Los Angeles, but none of my friends are interested. Where can a 24 year old girl go dancing at night, and walk back alone to her car without much worry? Also, other than randomly walking up to people and awkwardly trying to nudge my way into their circle, how on earth do I expand my horizons and meet/make friends with similarly minded people?

Help me plan a fun solo Thanksgiving

Kinda excited at the prospect of my first Thanksgiving alone. Where can a twentysomething girl go, or do, for Thanksgiving - both day and night? I'm in the Los Angeles/Pasadena area. Previous similar question, and I've taken all answers to heart. But mine has a twist: I can't stay in. [more inside]

There MUST be some way for me to do student research ...

My college's biological sciences dept has run out of student internship/research positions. The professors have emailed me back, saying that they might have openings in the spring. But I want to do something now. What are my other options? I'm in Los Angeles. [more inside]

Where to rent while attending Cal State LA?

Where should (or shouldn't) I rent a room, while attending CSU Los Angeles? I don't live in LA and am unfamiliar with the area. I have absolutely no idea what places I should be going for, and which neighborhoods to avoid. [more inside]
