Hitting a housing jackpot in LA?

After reading this article in the NYT about lotteries for housing in New York, I was left wondering if there were any equivalent programs in Los Angeles - I remember reading about something in Santa Monica, but it was apartments to rent, not own. Do such things exist?

Alternative to Craigslist for selling furniture (in LA)?

Are there good alternatives to Craigslist for selling furniture (in LA)? Ideally what I'd like is for a bunch of guys in a truck to come, give me some money, take my stuff all at once, and that would be the end of it. Does such a thing exist? This is nice functional furniture, not mid-century modern or anything antique.
