I reply to a fair number of L.A. travel questions here and many of the answers (including mine) often contain dire warnings about traffic. This happens even if traffic isn't directly related to the question being asked.
So, visitors to our fair city, how bad was the traffic
really, and what information/advice can I give to newbie LA tourists who drive?

I am flying into LAX for work Tuesday and have the afternoon free. 3:15 arrival. Is there something really cool I could do that is 1) open, and 2) accessible considering traffic? (I have a car.). Maybe a museum or a scenic spot, ineresting historic site, or a trendy market area?
I am not interested in bars or expensive restaurants. Bonus points if near Oxnard.

Dobbs and I are going to Los Angeles from Dec 15 - 23rd. Recommendations for any film, music, theatre, or gallery events that should not be missed (screenings, tributes, retrospectives, concerts, etc)? Restaurant recommendations are also welcome. I'll be staying downtown and he'll be in West Hollywood. Also, as Canadians who've never been to LA in winter, what outerwear is appropriate (rain much? how cold?)? Thanks!

I'm travelling in the US (Los Angeles) from Canada. What are my phone options? i'm sick of paying my local company's roaming charges. Can I buy a phone in LA that'll have full data/text/voice options for a month? If so, what'll it cost me? Can I just buy a chip for my iPhone for that month with no contract? (And if so, what's the best way to unlock it). Also, is there a way to forward SMS/text messages sent to my Toronto number?

Thanks to riding Chicago's L system so often I can sense my stop in my (literal) sleep, I think I'm finally ready to tackle Los Angeles' underutilized & unappreciated
Metro & Metrolink system for some day trips between Ventura County and LA proper. What are some can't miss attractions that are A) easily accessable by rail in a city of cars and B) fairly safe for a tiny semi-lost solo female and C) totally awesome?

I've heard people don't walk in LA.....I'll be on foot, and staying in West Hollywood (I've never been to LA.) Where should I go for awesome pics, and how should I get there?

And how long from Seattle to L.A.?
How would you budget your time in each city? We're leaving on Sunday evening and we have to get back by Friday night. We might skip Vancouver if the timetable gets too tight.

From L.A. to Santa Fe and back. By Car, necessarily. Next month. I'm planning a 1.5 day drive, a 3 day stay in Santa Fe (already taken care of, thanks), a 1.5 day drive back to L.A. Where should I sleep en route? I'm thinking Flagstaff, right? Sightseeing in or around Flagstaff? (touristy stuff is OK unless it's something horribily overcrowded or plainly for kids). Is the drive too long/boring? Any better ideas to make the trip more fun? Suggestions? Thanks.
