Good place to buy several varieties of avocados in LA?

I just moved to LA (yay!). I've heard you can get lots of avocado varieties here that don't make it back East. I'd like to buy high-quality examples of several varieties and have a taste-test. I've found many articles on restaurants with good avocado dishes, but nothing about where to buy them whole. My location is West West Adams, near Culver City.

Why does diesel cost vary so widely in Los Angeles?

I'm more curious than anything else at this point. I moved to LA in February and since then I've noted that CA Diesel #2 (that's what they call it out here) is *either* about $2.50-$3.00 a gallon *or* about $4.25-$5.00 a gallon. What gives? [more inside]

Is there a way to get out of this headache?

So basically I'm wondering what the options are for someone with loans and other debt who needs a financial manager or advisor. I have recently become employed for a new company and while things are going well in that, I want to know where I can find someone to figure out my financial situation including calling debtors to find out exact amounts owed. I find it personally very emotionally difficult to do and it would be great if I could get help in doing that. [more inside]

Driving SF to LA... where to stay?

My wife and I are going to take a short break on the West Coast, visiting friends in SF and LA on consecutive weekends and taking the week to drive between the two along the coast down Route 1. We've not been to that part of the world before, so we'd welcome recommendations on cool places to stay and visit.

What unusual family entertainment is there in Los Angeles/San Francisco?

We - mum, dad and two teenage boys aged 13 and 17) - will be in Los Angeles for a few days at the end of July and San Francisco for a few days at the start of August. We'd like to spend one evening in either city letting someone else entertain us - a sporting event or a show - but we'd like it to be either a bit odd or typically Californian. (Or both!) Help me find a certain style of wedding photographer.

I really like the "Luciana Flower Comb" and "Augustina Flower Vine" photos on this site. They're a bit "Laura Nyro in New York in the late sixties." The lighting contrast and the dark background and the small hit of color from the lipstick are very appealing to me. I'm getting married and would like to hire a photographer who can produce shots like this in his/her sleep, but I don't know what to search for -- what terminology, etc. "Goth" is not what I want, and "vintage" is too broad. Small Size Womens Shoes

Does anyone have recommendations for small-size (around size 4, depending on shoe) women's shoes, especially in the Los Angeles area? My wife moved here recently from Japan, where her shoe size is much less uncommon and so it wasn't much of an issue. But in LA, it seems very difficult to find any stores that stock this size. For something like sneakers, children's sizes are probably an option, but for dress shoes / heels I don't think that will work. [more inside]

YANML, LA City Parking Edition

As much as I like to support my local government, I prefer to do it through taxation or other more-or-less straightforward revenue-collection practices. Parking enforcement, to me, is a completely irrational form of revenue generation. So, on the basis of pure principle (and $73), I ask: if the city issues parking citations for vehicles parked on street cleaning routes, (presumably) because such parked vehicles cause the city injury (or whatever, you know, tangible bad thing) by impeding street cleaning, what is the method most likely to succeed of challenging a ticket issued after street cleaning has concluded, on the basis that the city suffered no injury?
